BRADENTON, Fla. – Pulling a four-star legacy defender away from the Longhorns seems like a near impossible mission, but teams are putting up a fight in the hopes of signing Landon Rink (6-3, 270). The Cy-Fair High School (Cypress, Texas) standout has made the rounds this spring and summer developing a list of four early favorites.
Teams have laid down 18 offers, and a few more may come through in the near future for Rink.
“Alabama, Georgia Tech, Arizona State – a lot of schools,” Rink said. “Arizona State and Georgia Tech, I wasn’t at school because we were taking a test when they came by, so I didn’t get to see them.”
After visiting Texas A&M, Texas, and Oklahoma this spring, the three programs welcomed Rink back again this summer.
Texas A&M: “It went very well. We arrived there, got dinner, and I got to talk to the players. We had a good time. The next day we camped and spent time together after the camp and talked. It went pretty well.”
Rink continued, “We have a really strong connection. I feel like me and coach (Elijah) Robinson (DL) have a really good connection.”
Oklahoma: “Oh, I have a great relationship with coach (Todd) Bates (DL). I call him all the time. Every time I go up there it feels like a family; same with A&M and Texas. It feels like a family up there.”
Rink added detail to his last visit in Norman, “We ate dinner. I ate dinner with David Stone too. We were there together. I was going to camp, they said I didn’t need to. I watched camp, did a photo shoot, we ate lunch together and talked for a while, and hung out.”
Texas: “It went well. We went to their Elite camp. I had a great time. I talked to coach Bo (Davis – DL). I love the way coach Bo coaches. When you mess up, he’s going to let you know; he’s going to get on you. But when you do right he will let you know too. I love the way he coaches.
When Rink visits, each time he connects with head coach Steve Sarkisian.
“I talk to coach Sark every time I go up there. I’m a Texas legacy; I’ve been up there a lot – I’d say eight times at least. They always invite me; I’m only two hours away, I might as well go.”
Asked which teams were his favorites, Rink replied, “A&M, Oklahoma, Texas, and Notre Dame.”
