Put the tape with the stats, Austyn Modrzewski is on an upward trend that will place him at a Power Five program in 2025. The straw that stirs the offense for Highlands Ranch’s Mountain Vista High School (Colo.) had a breakout season a year ago and is ready to capitalize on that success this fall with college programs watching.
A successful freshman campaign throwing for 1,502 yards with 15 touchdowns while completing 71 percent of his passes turned into a monster sophomore run. Modrzewski laid it on 5A Colorado defenses for 3,327 yards with 34 scores posted and rushed for 133 yards with one trip into the end zone.
The Golden Eagles offense was quickly explained, “We run a Spread offense. We run four receivers, but sometimes we run 11-personnel. We run and throw it.”
Taking his game to that next level, Modrzewski spoke about his summer grind.
“What I have been working on mainly is running, increasing my speed and strength,” Modrzewski stated. “Last year I passed a lot with our offensive line and receivers, but I wanted to help more with the scramble game and add more to the offense.”
The ability to move inside and outside the pocket buying time for his receivers is an area of improvement, the strengths of his game were detailed.
“My greatest strength is my accuracy and being calm and collected,” Modrzewski said. “There are times in tight situations, I know my teammates will do their thing and help me out if I stay calm and throw accurate balls. If I stay calm, they will make plays and help me out.”
A summer camp circuit in the Bluegrass State yielded two offers for Modrzewski.
“I went to the Kentucky camp, after the camp Eastern Kentucky offered me,” Modrzewski shared. “When I went to sit down to eat, Kentucky’s offensive coordinator, coach (Liam) Coen, and their head coach, coach (Mark) Stoops, pulled me aside and said they offered me.”
On pulling the Wildcats’ offer, Modrzewski stated, “Oh, it was amazing. I was super excited, and so happy they had given me a chance.”
In addition to the Kentucky camp, Modrzewski threw at a Chicago Land camp, Wisconsin, Iowa State, Wyoming, and Utah. Interest is building ahead of his junior season.
“Nevada, Iowa State, Wisconsin, Washington, and Northwestern a little bit,” Modrzewski said.
Fall visits will be planned around the Golden Eagles’ schedule, but trips to Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, North Dakota, Fresno State, and Wyoming could happen this season.
