Watching the Game 1 varsity highlights of Isaiah Stephens, there is uncapped potential waiting to scorch 6A Arkansas teams for years to come. Sheridan High School released their developing play-making weapon on Friday against El Dorado seeing their 2027 prospect make an impact toting the rock out of the backfield and on special teams. Stephens has that one thing next level scouts love, explosive speed.
The time had come to call Stephens up to the Yellowjackets varsity squad. Between the freshmen and junior varsity squads there was nothing left to prove, Stephens covered 1,734 yards on the ground off 116 carries with 31 touchdowns. The yard per carry average is mind blowing 14.95 per touch.
Stephens updated his season, “It is going great. I am playing really well, trying to get the wins.”
The call to move up was covered.
“I started off with the ninth-grade team and then moved up to varsity last week,” Stephens said. “It was exciting. I am very excited.”
The athleticism allows Stephens to line up at any skill position on the field.
“I’m an athlete, I can play any position,” Stephens stated. “I can play running back, cornerback, safety, receiver, or quarterback. Anything my coach needs me to play, I can play it.”
Working out of the Yellowjackets zone scheme, Stephens talked about his play on the field.
“My cuts and my vision are really good,” Stephens shared. “I can catch well; I work on my hands and my cuts. My vision, that just comes to me. My knowledge of the game is really good, and I continue to work on my overall knowledge.”
The debut performance ended with 106 yards off 12 carries with two touchdowns coupled with 133 kick return yards.
Word of Stephens’ abilities have already crept out of the town of 5,000-plus.
“Jackson State, Murray State, Arkansas, Arkansas State, and Missouri are showing interest,” Stephens said.
On Nov. 4, the Red Wolves will welcome Stephens to Centennial Bank Stadium for the showdown against Louisiana.
“I am going to see Arkansas State in two weeks,” Stephens stated. “I am very excited. I really love football; it will be a great experience for me. I want to see what it is like on the sidelines and see everything.”
Just how fast is the ninth grader? As an eighth-grader, Stephens posted an 11.61 in the 100. Stephens also wowed with a 21’, 6.75” long jump in April. In addition to running the 100, 200, 400, competing in the long jump, and playing football, he also plays baseball.
