Cornerbacks have always been a high priority on the gridiron, but in today’s game, a corner who can cover and stop the run is as important as any other position on the field. The importance given to the spot trying to shutdown college Spread offenses has college coaches across the country giving their best pitches to Class of 2021 Princess Anne High School talent Tony Grimes. Grimes has the size at 6-0, 180, the speed, and showcased his abilities this offseason at the 5-Star Challenge cementing his place as a five-star recruit and, per 247/Sports, the top-rated corner in his class.
Thirty-two reported offers have gone out to Grimes so far with each program clamoring to get him on their campus to show the Virginia Beach (VA) product what life would be like in “college town U.S.A.” Grimes took several visits this offseason leading to intrigue along the recruiting trail.
Taking a break from fall practices with Princess Anne High School, I got a few minutes with Grimes getting the latest updates.

Interview
Tony, how are the offseason workouts coming along?
“Our offseason workouts are going really good. Our new coaches have really changing the program around. I’m glad to be a part of a team with good athletes who are ready to give there all every day. I’m putting in the hard work like everyone else on my team. The offseason is going great.”
Where are you seeing the biggest improvements in your game this spring and summer?
“My play recognition and my football IQ. I am seeing plays and breaking it down before it starts.”
Did you attend any camps this offseason?
“Yes. I attended the 5-Star Challenge.”
What did you do well at that camp?
“My man-to-man cover skills.”
Did you take any visits this spring and/or summer?
“Yes. I visited Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, UNC (North Carolina), Ohio State, and more.”
How did the Texas visit go?
“The Texas visit went really well. I love it in Austin. There are some pros and little bit of cons but Texas is not a bad place to play football in college. Coach (Jason) Washington (RC/CB) is the man 100 percent.”
How did the Texas A&M visit go?
“I always have an amazing time at A&M, especially with the coaching staff. They show so much love and respect.”

How are the Cavaliers looking this summer?
“We looking like some dogs. We expect to go far and change the program around.”
What can the fans expect of the team once the ball is on the tee this fall?
“They gonna give it their all every single play.”
