At Clearwater High School (Fla.), the Tornadoes have a playmaker in Ti’Lan McGee. The senior tailback made the most of his touches last season earning seven offers. Interest is picking up ahead of the 2023 schedule and official visits are on the mind of the overlooked prospect.
Put McGee (5-10, 195) in any offense, his speed translates.
“I ran the 40 and I ran track this offseason,” McGee stated. “My last meet was at regionals, I ran an 11-flat, and my 40 was a 4.47.”
The Tornadoes offense was covered, “Our offense is about the run game, we will run it a lot. I will do what I have to do, and that opens up our passing game. We have a run-first offense. We have a few formations we line up in, the Pistol, under center, and shotgun.”
Asked what makes his skills as a running back unique on the field, McGee replied, “The work ethic and the leadership. I want my team to succeed no matter what. I’m a humble person, I’m not the type of person to say stuff about myself.”
The offer sheet includes Charleston Southern, Middle Tennessee State, Liberty, Massachusetts, Charlotte, Rhode Island, and South Florida.
The teams checking out McGee with a possible scholarship opportunity in mind were listed, “Iowa State, a lot, UCF, and FIU (Florida International).”
Out of Tampa, the Bulls are among the teams making the most contact with McGee.
“I really like the two running back coaches there, they are really cool,” McGee said. “They seem like the coaches that are my high school coaches but are like a father figure or a brother to me.”
McGee is digging the new offense head coach Alex Golesh brought with him from the Volunteers.
“They have a new head coach and offensive coordinator,” McGee shared. “Their head coach was the offensive coordinator at Tennessee last year; they have that Spread offense. I like that offense. It is similar to what we run at Clearwater. If I go there, it would be very easy to adapt to their offense.”
Nothing is set, but two official visits are possibilities for McGee this fall.
“I will go to USF this season; it will probably be an official,” McGee stated. “I like Liberty, right now. I am waiting to see how my recruitment plays out.”
