Florida 2024 ATH Leon Washington forcing college scouts to take notice
ORLANDO, Fla. – The overall package that Leon Washington Jr. brings to the field is hard to match. Working over Florida squads for North Florida Christian in Tallahassee last fall, Washington was that do-all player impacting all three phases of the game. Still widely under the radar, six offers have been extended with Mississippi State and South Florida making an impact.
In the month of March, Washington visited Florida State and USF. The trip to Tallahassee was covered.
“It was good,” Washington said. “They showed a lot of energy, I love the culture there.”
Out of Tampa, the Bulls’ coaching staff has stayed after Washington.
“I had been there before; they have been consistent in recruiting me,” Washington stated.
Another in-state program may welcome Washington this spring.
“I will probably visit Florida,” Washington said. “Florida is a big one that I want to go to.”
Washington continued, “They have been talking to me a lot telling me to keep my head up and trust the process. I like them a lot.”
Official visit dates have not been set, but two teams are lining up to host Washington.
“Mississippi State and USF,” Washington shared.
The new staff in Starkville has targeted the speed burning prospect.
“Our relationship is great,” Washington said. “Ever since the old staff left, they came right in and have been consistent; I really like them.”
Matt Merritt is Washington’s lead recruiter out of Tampa. Washington explained why USF may officially host him.
“They are high energy,” Washington shared. “I love their energy, and they are locked in; I really like that.”
All the stat columns possible that could be filled, Washington did so during his junior campaign. He secured 52 passes for 1,005 yards with 15 scores and rushed 45 times for 378 yards with 10 more trips into the end zone. He even completed two passes for 48 yards notching a touchdown. On defense, Washington is credited with stopping 47 plays and picking off four passes. In the third phase, Washington tallied 385 kick return yards and 157 off punts tacking two more scores on the big board.
On Saturday, Washington earned Fastest Man honors at the Pylon camp in Orlando and took home the receiver MVP award.
