Since college football recruiting began, there have always been under the radar gems that have slipped past the scouting eyes of next level coaches. In the case of James Hayes (6-4, 225), the 2024 prospect has eluded watchful eyes because of an ACL injury. Set to spin it for Miami’s Monsignor Pace last fall, the injury limited Hayes’ ability to showcase the arm talent and field general capabilities. This fall, Hayes will command Coconut Creek High School’s offense wowing all with what he can do on the field.
Set to run a Spread-Air Raid attack for the Cougars this season, Hayes shared his offseason focus as a QB.
“I am working on my mechanics, my progression, and taking what the defense is giving,” Hayes said. “I am learning down and distance – I am working on everything. This offseason I am working on my footwork, learning the game, and watching a lot of other people like Heisman quarterbacks.”
Two offers have come Hayes’ way from Bethune Cookman and Furman. Come Saturday, more will be in the know on Hayes.
“Yesterday I talked to Bowling Green,” Hayes shared. “We have our spring game (scrimmage) before the spring game on Saturday, there will be colleges there. They want to get a closer look at me.”
An aggressive college camp schedule is being put together, so more are in the know.
“I’m going to all of them,” Hayes said. “My dad said I am going to FIU (Florida International), FSU (Florida State), and all the mega camps in the area. Every camp I can go to, I’m going to. We are going to Bama for a 7-on-7 tournament, Jackson State, and more.”
Hayes caught attention at the Rivals camp in Miami at the end of March showcasing his arm talent.
