BRADENTON, Fla – A college coach is not doing his part if he does not spend time evaluating all the players on IMG Academy’s (Bradenton, Fla.) roster. From one side of the ball to the other, the Ascenders have next level talents developing their craft. Class of 2025 linebacker Gavin Nix has emerged as one of the top defenders for IMG with 20 offers in his backpack. Teams have been pushing to get the four-star on campus this spring and summer.
One of the recruiting stops this offseason for Nix was at Notre Dame.
“It was great,” Nix said “Most definitely a different feel. I’ve been in the southern area all my life, but going up there and seeing something new, they are deep in tradition. They have a lot of old and modern buildings; it was most definitely beautiful there. Their coaching staff, they all showed love and a lot of hospitality. I loved the visit overall.”
The Hurricanes were able to keep Nix in-state for another spring trip.
“Miami went great,” Nix shared. “They took care of us down there. We all had a great time. Their coaches are down to earth people; I had great conversations with them. I feel like they are building something great down there. Overall, it was great. I loved it.”
Before visiting the Seminoles on Saturday, Nix spoke about heading back to Tallahassee.
“I’m really excited to get back up there,” Nix stated. “I went up there earlier this year for a Junior Day. I’m just excited to get up there and continue to build that relationship with their coaches and see them again.”
Nix continued covering his relationship with FSU’s coaches, “It has been great. Very strong. That relationship started around my eighth or ninth grade year. I have kept a relationship with them for a long time. That means a lot because it shows how much they want me. I will want someone who wants me. My relationship with Florida State has been great.”
Nix’s summer calendar may fill up in a hurry.
“Nothing is for sure, I know I am going on a tour this summer,” Nix said. “We are still setting up which schools we are going to. I am talking to a few schools like Georgia, Ohio State, North Carolina, Tennessee, schools like that. I will probably have to wait a month or so before I know for sure where I am going.”
The opportunity to work one-on-one with Bulldogs’ defensive coordinator/inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann is one Nix does not want to pass up.
“I don’t know everywhere, but I have talked to coach Schumann at Georgia; I will go up there and work out with him this summer for sure,” Nix stated.
