A spectacular sophomore campaign is turning into an extraordinary junior year for Jayvan Boggs (6-1, 190). The Cocoa High School (Fla.) standout has worked his way to four-star status with 17 scholarship opportunities in hand, but an early list of favorites has moved up Boggs’ personal recruiting board.
With Miami and Florida State among the programs showing interest, Boggs updated the teams pushing to forge a strong recruiting rapport, “Ohio State, Florida, Penn State, and UCF.”
Boggs continued, “My recruitment has been fun, but there are three main schools for me right now, Ohio State, Penn State, and Florida.”
The Class of 2025 talent shared his insight into his three favorites.
Ohio State: “They lead the way for me because it felt like a second home up there. Coach (Ryan) Day and coach (Brian) Hartline, I am talking to them a lot. I loved everything about being up there. I liked being around coach Hartline and the meetings I had with him.”
Penn State: “I like how they are on me. Since the day they offered me, they have been on me to get up there for a game. I am going up there soon. They tell me how I would fit into their offense, and stuff like that; I like it.”
Florida: “With the Gators, I was there Saturday night for the Tennessee game. Coach (Billy) Gonzales and I have a great relationship. The atmosphere there was great. I had great conversations with the coaches, and with coach (Billy) Napier. They told me that I fit their offense perfectly.”
UCF hosted Boggs in the Bounce House for the season opening win against Kent State. Two Big Ten trips have been set.
“I am going to Ohio State on Oct. 21 for the Penn State game, and I am going to Penn State for the Michigan game (Nov. 11),” Boggs said.
After visiting one of his three favorites, Boggs was asked what is important for him to experience while visiting the other two teams atop his early board.
“What is important for me is does it feel like home,” Boggs shared. “Is it a fit for me as a person on and off the field. Another thing that is important for me is the coaches. The next two game-days are important.”
Three teams have raced out in front for Boggs but expect those powerhouses to get more competition in the coming weeks. Last fall, Boggs was hauling in passes from Blake Boda (Coastal Carolina) producing 722 yards off 41 receptions with six trips into the end zone. Through three games with the Tigers this season, Boggs already has 25 receptions for 442 yards with seven scores.
“We mainly run quads with one running back but sometimes we go with a fullback/tight end with three receivers,” Boggs stated. “We mainly give a quad look.”
Taking in passes from Brady Hart this fall, all the routes are an option in the attack.
“We run the whole tree, slants, posts, digs, fades, comebacks, double moves – all of them,” Boggs said.
On his improvements from one season to the next, Boggs shared, “I’d say my YAC, yards after the catch, is way better. I am more of a playmaker with the ball in my hands this season.”
Cocoa has played one of the toughest schedules in the state of Florida this year. The Tigers started off with Jones on the road (22-20) followed by a home game against Venice (31-21). Before their bye week last week, the Tigers went down to the wire in Fort Lauderdale against St. Thomas Aquinas (36-37).
Covering the Tigers’ 2-1 start, Boggs stated, “We got off to a hot start and have showed up in the big games. We’ve been balling.”
