VENICE, Fla. – The list of available five-star prospects in the 2024 recruiting class is dwindling with another one ready to come off the board. On July 28, Charles Lester (6-2, 183) will announce his verbal commitment from a big field of options that has been narrowed down to three.
With the opportunity to play college football wherever he wants, the new five-star Venice High School (Fla.) cornerback narrowed down his focus taking official visits to Alabama on June 2, Colorado on June 9, and Florida State on June 16.
Lester detailed the visits giving his insight into each program.
THE BREAKDOWN
Alabama: “It was awesome. I got closer with coach (Nick) Saban; I got to spend time with him. Being able to go over to his house and spend time with his family was great. It was a blessing.
“What impressed me the most was being able to listen to coach Saban with him telling me that I am a priority for him in this class. He let me know that I can come in and do some big things early. Knowing the depth chart at defensive back is kind of short at Bama, there is an awesome opportunity; he (Saban) preached that to me the whole time. He let me know that I can be one of the next great DBs to come out of Bama.”
Colorado: “That was a fun trip too. That was my first trip up there. I saw a lot of new stuff. There was a bunch of stuff that impressed me at Colorado. I had never been there before; I had heard a lot of people talking about it. Going there, I saw a couple of things that I did not expect.”
Florida State: “It was awesome; it was awesome. I have been there a lot, so it was more of bonding time. I know those people very well. It was awesome. We did a little bit of film, we ate, talked, we went out, and we did a whole bunch of group activities. We had more fun than anything there.”
Fans for one program are in for a surprise visit.
“I am thinking about going somewhere, but I don’t want to announce it yet,” Lester said.
Following up on the percentages of the mystery visit happening, Lester replied, “I am going for sure, I am already locked in.”
With the commitment date set, Lester was asked which schools are in the running for his verbal pledge.
“I am considering Florida State, Colorado, and Alabama,” Lester shared.
The final decision will come down to two factors.
“Being familiar and the trust, trusting those people with me,” Lester stated. “It will be about trust and being comfortable more with that university than the others. I will go with my gut and with what God is telling me.”
Lester’s commitment will be announced on Friday, July 28, at 8:30 p.m. ET.
Lester spent his junior season at Sarasota Riverview High School transferring to Venice this summer.
