KISSIMMEE, Fla. – After 30-plus offers have been handed over and a top eight list revealed in January, Fred Gaskin is tightening up the list of contenders looking at official visits. The Vanguard High School (Ocala, Fla.) four-star safety has taken a trio of visits so far this spring that has helped populate where he may go this summer on the colleges’ dime.
The eight listed on Jan. 11 included Alabama, Auburn, Colorado, Florida State, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Penn State, and Tennessee. A new program is breaking onto the scene trying to crack that grouping.
“A new team coming into play is Pittsburgh,” Gaskin said. “Right now, the teams pushing the hardest for me are Florida State, Tennessee, and Pittsburgh.”
The three stops made in recent weeks include Tennessee, Florida, and Florida State. The time in Tallahassee for Gaskin is always well spent.
“It went pretty well,” Gaskin stated. “There are always good vibes up there. That is always a place to be.”
The coaches in Knoxville left an impression.
“It was a great environment,” Gaskin shared. “I got around the coaches and players for the first time, they showed me great energy. When I got there, they treated me like family.”
Unofficial visits are on hold for now with a look to setting up the paid for trips.
“I have three teams I am pushing to get officials with, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, and Florida State,” Gaskin said. “I have been talking to Pittsburgh about getting an official date.”
Outside the original top schools list and new to his recruitment, Gaskin spoke about why the Panthers are in line to officially host him.
“The fact that they are trying to build a relationship, they are constantly on me heavy every day,” Gaskin shared. “They are texting me, hitting me up and asking how I am doing and seeing how things are going.”
