UCF won the early recruiting battle with Sincere Edwards, but that did not stop other college football programs from offering the Wekiva High School (Apopka, Fla.) talent. The four-star defensive lineman is over the 30-offer mark as teams continued to pursue him after his Aug. 10, 2022, verbal pledge to the Knights. Edwards’ (6-1, 280) recruitment heated back up after decommitting on June 21, one day ahead of his paid for trip to Pitt.

The decommitment by Edwards came days after his June 9 OV in Orlando. Coupled with reopening his recruiting process came a top-five of UCF, South Florida, Maryland, Pitt, and Penn State.

Edwards updated his recruiting status.

“I shut my recruiting down with my top five,” Edwards stated. “I did have schools contact me after my top five was released, teams like Nebraska and Vanderbilt.”

Insight into the four-star’s top schools was given.

THE BREAKDOWN

UCF: “My relationship is still really strong with coach (Kenny) Martin (DL) and coach Gus Malzahn. To be honest, I have over 30 offers, I just wanted to explore my options and not be committed. I am at the point of my high school career where I want to enjoy my process and have fun with it.”

Pitt: “I really love their coaching staff. Pitt really influenced my decommitment; their staff is amazing. I love their defense. They run a high-powered defense. It is fun to watch.”

Penn State: “I have a really good relationship with coach (Ja’Juan) Seider (RB), but I have not been there yet. I have talked to coach (Deion) Barnes, their defensive line coach.”

Maryland: “I like coach JT (James Thomas Jr. – OLB). I mess with them heavily. Maryland has a great coaching staff. I have been to Maryland twice already. We should be setting up an official; it is the same with Penn State, it should be sometime in December.”

South Florida: “I mess around with coach KP (Kevin Patrick – DL) a lot. I have known a lot of them before USF when they were with Tennessee. I love the way coach KP works; he is a really good guy to be around.”

For all upcoming visits, Edwards shared what he wants to learn doing his own personal evaluations of each program.

“I really want to see the people and be around them, see who they have put in the NFL, the defense they run, and learn how they would use my talent in their defense,” Edwards said. “Of course, I have to have a great relationship with the coaches. That is all I want to see.”
