The recruiting race for one of the nation’s best tailbacks went down to Colorado, Florida, Oklahoma, Penn State, and UCF. On Saturday, four-star tailback Stacy Gage announced his commitment to UCF.
The St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) talent spoke about his rapport with the Knights’ coaching staff.
“The relationship is great,” Gage said. “I have been talking with their coach since I was a freshman. Honestly, the relationship with the staff is going well. I am really comfortable with the staff, and I feel like they can get me ready for the next level.”
Repeat trips to Orlando helped draw the Class of 2024 prospect closer to UCF’s staff.
“I have visited a couple of times,” Gage stated. “They told me how they can use me, and showed me the path way to where I want to be after three years at their school. I felt good about that especially.”
The Knights expect big things from Gage the moment he steps foot on campus.
“They expect me to come in and be an impact guy,” Gage shared. “I will be sharing the ball as a freshman with another running back, I’ll have two years to myself in the backfield, and I will graduate in three years; all good stuff.”
An official visit with the Knights on June 2 helped seal the deal in person.
“I told them this week, but they kind of knew about it because I had talked about it several times before,” Gage said. “I told them before this that UCF is the school where I want to be.”
Gage continued, “When I told them, the room went crazy. It electrified all the staff. They all felt good about it. It is great to call UCF home.”
The focus for Gage now turns back to football and preparing for his senior season.
“I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders,” Gage shared. “It felt good. It feels good to call UCF home. Now I can sit back relax and do my thing playing football.”
The Knights have five commitments to their 2024 class after Gage’s verbal commitment.
