On Wednesday, Florida went into Auburn and Alabama’s backyard pulling out Class of 2017 quarterback/athlete Kadarius Toney.
Toney has been a big part of Blount High School’s 8-4 and 11-2 seasons over the past two years proving to be a dynamic playmaker lining up as the team’s quarterback. The 6’0”, 185 pound, talent had a breakout season in 2015 passing for 3,604 yards with 37 touchdowns. Running a read-option spread attack, Toney was truly electric running the ball covering 896 yards with 16 additional scores.
The Leopards’ rising star flashed his 4.4 speed and ability to cut on a dime along with a great ability to spread the ball around in the offense all the way to being a second team Class 6A All-State selection and a first team AL.com Coastal Alabama honoree.
Despite his great athleticism, recruiting for Toney has been mixed. South Carolina and Ole Miss were Toney’s other SEC offers but he also had scholarships on the table from Georgia Tech, South Florida, Wake Forest, Tulane, Coastal Carolina, and South Alabama. Auburn and LSU were his other reported SEC interests having visited Baton Rouge twice.
The Gators now have five verbal commitments to their 2017 recruiting class. Results on efforts in the new year have been slow, three of the five commits, Kadeem Telfort, Jake Allen, and Daquon Green, all committed in 2015. Kemore Gamble was the most recent pledging to the Gators on April 8.
