The Blue Devils added their ninth verbal commitment to the 2017 class on Wednesday landing Florida outside linebacker/tight end Chris Rumph II.
Rumph was a big part of Buchholz High School’s (Gainesville, FL) 10-2 season in 2015 coming up with 102 tackles on the season. In his first season with the Bobcats after transferring in from Austin (TX), Rumph made an immediate impact as an outside linebacker with 23.5 tackles for a loss, 13.5 sacks, two quarterback hurries, one fumble recovery, and one forced fumble.
The 6’3”, 200 pound, talent has seen his recruitment take off in recent weeks with reported offers from Austin Peay, Central Florida, Florida International, Mercer, Appalachian State, and Vanderbilt.
Rumph’s commitment announcement via Twitter was quick and to the point:
If the name of Chris Rumph sounds familiar, it should. Rumph’s father, Chris is well-known in college football circles. Rumph senior played his college ball at South Carolina. Since the 2002 season with South Carolina State, he has worked throughout the south coaching some of the top defensive linemen and linebackers in the nation. The elder Rumph has stops at Memphis (2003-05), Clemson (2006-08 and 2009-10), Alabama (2011-13), Texas (2014), and is now on staff with the Florida Gators.
Duke has pulled recruits from Georgia, Alabama, Maryland, Tennessee, and Illinois. Rumph II is the second Florida product to verbally commit to the Blue Devils 2017 class joining Pensacola’s West Florida Tech wide receiver Damond Johnson.
