Florida State secured a verbal commitment from one of the more sought after recruits in the 2016 recruiting class on Tuesday pulling Naseir Upshur out of Philadelphia.
College coaches across the country love Upshur’s versatility and upside with over 40 programs extending offers. The 6’2”, 230 pound, prospect had a nice sophomore season pulling down eight passes for 155 yards with two touchdowns. On the other side of the ball he had 40 tackles and 7.0 sacks. During his junior campaign for Imhotep Institute the offense opened up more for him with 22 receptions for 640 yards, a ridiculous 29 yard per reception average, with 11 touchdowns. At end his numbers dropped to 20 tackles with six sacks.
The Seminoles are recruiting Upshur as a tight end seemingly replacing de-committed IMG Academy 5-star Isaac Nauta.
The programs in the running for Upshur included Michigan and Penn State, per unofficial visits. Word is Upshur will still take some of his official visits with USC and Arizona State being possible destinations.
Some of the schools to offer Upshur include Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Ohio State, Pitt, South Carolina, Michigan State, Mississippi State, UCLA, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech.
FSU now has 18 verbal commitments to their 2016 recruiting class with a consensus Top 25 haul.
