Everything is lining up as planned for 2025 tight end/defensive end Tamez Young. Working with Robinson High School (Tampa, Fla.), Young (6-4, 215) has been able to showcase his skills on both sides of the ball leading to more interest streaming in from college coaches. The efforts from the collegiate level are paying off with the three-star making recruiting rounds this fall.
Because of his athletic talents on the gridiron, the Knights have Young all over the field.
“I am playing tight end, defensive end, and linebacker,” Young stated.
Insight to his personal preferences on the field were given, “I like playing tight end, but I like playing defense even more; I like rushing. I don’t know what I like doing more, chasing the ball or getting sacks.”
Running a base 4-3 this season with Robinson, Young has come up big for his new squad in the first half of the schedule.
“The season has been good,” Robinson shared. “I’ve had big games all season. I got about eight sacks right now, but I’m not sure how many catches I have. I know I have four receiving touchdowns.”
Holding offers from Rutgers, South Florida, West Virginia, Toledo, Florida Atlantic, and Florida A&M, scouts are really liking Young at one position.
“All my offers right now are at tight end,” Young said.
As more tape of Young goes out with him stopping teams, some of the squads now showing interest may drop scholarship opportunities on the other side of the ball.
“There’s a lot of teams showing interest – Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, Cincinnati, Florida, FSU, UCF, and Stanford,” Young stated.
A trio of teams are putting in the extra early effort to build bonds with the rising talent.
“Ole Miss, they are reaching out a lot, West Virginia and Rutgers, they text almost every day,” Young shared.
The travel schedule is getting heavy for Young.
“I was supposed to be at Rutgers’ home opener, I am still planning on going to West Virginia, and I went USF for the Alabama game,” Young said. “Next week, I will be at FSU.”
Seeing the Bulls take on the Crimson Tide, Young left impressed with South Florida’s defensive efforts.
“It went well,” Young shared. “Their defense played well; they were making big plays”
Mountaineers’ tight ends coach Blaine Stewart is letting Young know he is a priority in the ’25 class.
“I talk to their tight ends coach almost every day,” Young said. “He shows me how they would get me the ball and tells me about how well they are doing.”
After topping Clemson over the weekend, the Seminoles have a bye week before starting a three-game home stand at Doak Campbell; Young will be on hand for the Virginia Tech showdown.
“Our relationship is good,” Young stated. “I went there over during the spring; I was there for their spring game. I liked it a lot there. Coach (Chris) Thomsen, their tight ends coach, and coach Adam Fuller, their defensive coordinator, have been recruiting me.”
Young played his sophomore season with Tampa’s Wharton making the move to Robinson in the offseason.
