After a big sophomore year as Venice High School’s (Fla.) leading receiver during their state championship game run, Ryan Matulevich is set for an even bigger junior campaign. The three-star prospect has two outstanding quarterbacks in the Indians backfield (Jadyn Glasser and Ryan Downes) delivering the rock, a stable of talented tailbacks to pound the rock behind an offensive line full of returning starters, and relief from being targeted by defenses with Charles Lester and Zycarl Lewis running routes. With more freedom to roam and a big spotlight shining on Venice this season, Matulevich is set to add to his 11 scholarship opportunities.
The offering teams for Matulevich (6-0, 175) includes Arkansas State, Appalachian State, Charlotte, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M, South Florida, and UCF. Interest is building from ACC and Pac-12 squads.
“Wake Forest is definitely one of the top schools showing interest, and Stanford; a lot of their staff is following me on Twitter,” Matulevich stated. “I am hoping that is a sign.”
The Demon Deacons’ interest can be traced back to Matulevich’s summer camp tour.
“We went on a big camp tour to Wake Forest, Duke, Pitt, and I just got back from Yale at the end of June,” Matulevich shared. “I also visited West Virginia.”
The Wake Forest camp was detailed, “It was good. I had a good camp there. Their coaching staff showed a lot of interest, and they are still showing a lot of interest. They want me there for a game; I am hoping to get an offer.”
Matulevich got after it in Durham as well.
“Duke, that was another good camp,” Matulevich shared. “I was one of the highlighted players at the camp. I talked to their receivers coach (Zohn Burden); we talked about basic stuff and talked about my game.”
The Mountaineers impressed while the 2025 prospect was in Morgantown.
“I loved the campus, and the field is awesome; it was one of the best I have seen,” Matulevich said. “I like coach (Bilal) Marshall (WR). I like the way he coaches and talks to his players. I had a good time there.”
Of the offering schools, the Knights are doing their best to positively impact Matulevich’s recruitment.
“UCF, they’ve been a big factor so far,” Matulevich stated. “Staying within the rules, they are messaging me when they can and inviting me up for game-day visits.”
That messaging will help get their 2025 target to the Bounce House this fall.
“I plan on taking game-day visits to Wake Forest and UCF,” Matulevich shared.
Matulevich gave more insight into his relationship with the Knights’ coaching staff.
“I love the program,” Matulevich said. “I love their offense. I have been up there for a few practices and liked what I saw. They hold short practices, but you keep going at it, just like what we do at Venice. I like coach Herb (Hand – WR; he’s a great guy. I like how he coaches his receivers.”
The first impression made by the Demon Deacons has Matulevich ready to return to Winston-Salem.
“When I went up there, they have a really nice field, and Wake Forest has one of my favorite campuses so far,” Matulevich stated. “Wake Forest also has great academic programs and a competitive football team.”
During the 2022 season, Matulevich led the Indians in receptions (50) and receiving yards (673) with five touchdowns posted.
