One of the top recruits in the 2015 class for Alabama became one of the top recruits for Arizona State in the 2017 class on Monday when quarterback Blake Barnett committed to the Sun Devils.
Barnett (6-5, 211) was a four-star recruit out of Santiago High School (Corona, CA) spending his true freshman season in Tuscaloosa as a redshirt competing for the starting job against Jalen Hurts during the 2016 fall camp. Hurts ended up winning the job after the first game of the season prompting a change of scenery for Barnett on Sept. 29.
The highly touted dual-threat ended up at Palomar College. Palomar posted a 4-6 record in 2016 in the National Southern California Junior College Division but Barnett was not on the field taking snaps. Matt Romero handled all the action on the field. Barnett took his time during the fall semester finding the right fit for him visiting Oregon, Arizona State, and Washington State before committing to the Sun Devils.
The second time around, Barnett had offers from the aforementioned as well as Cal. During an in-home visit with the ASU staff, Barnett committed posting his decision on Twitter writing, “Forks Up #committed.” The post included a picture of him with the staff:
Arizona State now has nine total commitments to their 2017 class. Barnett is the second quarterback added to the class joining four-star in-state talent Ryan Kelley.
