LSU’s 2015 recruiting class and depth chart took a hit Monday night when offensive linemen George Brown Jr. decided to transfer.
Brown was one of six offensive linemen the Tigers signed to their 2015 class and one of the more highly rated as a four-star along with four-star Toby Weathersby and five-star Maea Teuhema. LSU returns three starters up front on offense and has two upperclassmen expected to fill in the open spots along the right side of the line. At the end of spring ball, Brown was listed second string at right tackle. The influx of talent from the 2016 recruiting class has pushed Brown further down the line seemingly leading to the decision to transfer.
A new home for Brown should not be hard to find. Coming out of Winton Woods High School in the Cincinnati area, the big tackle had 40-plus offers to choose from before siding with LSU. The same options may not be open but some of the teams believing in his potential at that time included Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, Texas, UCLA, Baylor, Georgia, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Penn State, Michigan State, Kansas State, Washington, and TCU to name a few. LSU flipped Brown away from his commitment to Florida.
LSU’s potential depth on offense took a hit on Sunday with the announcement that 2016 offensive line signee Willie Allen is sidelined with a knee injury.
Brown redshirted in 2015 and will have to sit out the 2016 season, unless he opts for the junior college route, due to NCAA transfer rules.
