On Aug. 11, LSU lost some of the spoils from their 2015 recruiting class when former five-star recruit Tyron Johnson opted to test his pass receiving options elsewhere. On Friday, Johnson announced via Twitter a new home had been found in Stillwater.

Johnson was one of four recruits ranked as five-star a talent to sign with LSU in 2015. With Brandon Harris under center and Cam Cameron calling the offensive plays, the Tigers crawled their way through a horrid aerial attack ranked No. 108 in the nation averaging just 180 yards per game. The result was an extremely talented wide receiver corps with little to show on their stat line.

LSU played the 6-1, 189 pound, true freshman talent in nine games seeing him haul in nine passes for 150 yards with two scores. The stat sheet does not tell the lopsided nature of his production. Johnson had perhaps his best game against Ole Miss pulling in five passes for 83 yards with one touchdown. His other big game was against Western Kentucky hauling in a 61-yard touchdown toss.

In the Big 12, offenses are wide open and Oklahoma State is among the best of them. The Cowboys slung the ball around the yard on average for 352 yards per game ranking No. 7 in the country at the end of the 2015 season. After Johnson sits for a year due to NCAA transfer rules, spots along OSU’s two-deep will open up with seniors Marcell Ateman, Jhajuan Seales, and Austin Hays completing their eligibility. If James Washington has another 53 catch, 1,087 yard, 10 touchdown kind of season this year, the junior could be a prime candidate for early entry into the NFL.

Johnson was listed as a third-string receiver last season but was part of the two-deep after spring practices.

Oklahoma State was one of the 20-plus teams to offer the former Warren Easton (New Orleans) standout out of high school.
