The LSU quarterback battle dropped from a three-man race down to two on Thursday with the announcement that former Tigers starting quarterback Anthony Jennings is transferring.

Jennings was a 4-star recruit out of Marietta (GA) as part of the 2013 recruiting class. The 6-2, 202, pound dual-threat received time in the LSU huddle during his true freshman season completing 13 of 29 pass attempts for 181 yards with one touchdown and one interception. The reigns of the offense were handed to Jennings during his sophomore season but the up and down play in the pocket led head coach Les Miles and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron to tryout another 4-star freshman, Brandon Harris.

The results were similar for both quarterbacks with neither being able to move the ball downfield consistently. During the 2015 season, Harris took all of the snaps leaving Jennings holding the clipboard on the sidelines.

Miles made the announcement on Thursday narrowing down what was supposed to be a three-man battle under center during spring ball to two. With Jennings out, LSU’s quarterback battle is down to Harris and Purdue transfer quarterback Danny Etling.

Jennings ends his LSU care 9-4 as a starter having his best season in 2014 after completing 111 of 227 passes for 1,611 yards with 11 touchdowns against seven interceptions while rushing for 292 yards.
