The 2013 recruiting class was a good one for LSU filled with guys like offensive lineman Ethan Pocic, defensive end Lewis Neal, and linebacker Kendell Beckwith. One of the key members of the class, 4-star wide receiver John Diarse, will officially end his collegiate playing career with TCU.
Diarse asked for and was granted a release from his scholarship last week and quickly found a soft landing with the Horned Frogs.
The change in offensive mindsets will be night and day for Diarse coming from a LSU squad that was ranked No. 106 out of 127 teams in passing yards per game with just 180. TCU on the other hand has been prolific with Trevone Boykin under center averaging 348 passing yards per game in 2015.
Boykin has completed his college eligibility but the offense is expected to continue in the same mode with former Texas A&M gunslinger Kenny Hill or Foster Sawyer winning the starting position. The other advantage for Diarse, two of the Horned Frogs’ leading receivers have also used up their college eligibility, Josh Doctson and Kolby Listenbee. Doctson was among the best receivers in the nation pulling in 79 passes for 1,327 yards with 14 scores and Listenbee had 30 receptions for 597 yards with five touchdowns.
Diarse will have options around him in the passing game with tailback Shaun Nixon (47/501/1) and sophomore slot receiver KaVontae Turpin (45/649/8) coming back. Over the last two seasons, Diarse only had 28 receptions for 412 yards coming up with 13 of those passes for 137 yards in 2015.
TCU will get Diarse for two seasons and will be able to use him immediately after the former Neville High School standout graduated in December. The Horned Frogs open their 2016 schedule against South Dakota State but then take on the Arkansas Razorbacks in Week 2.
