Former Miami QB Kevin Olsen booted from Towson squad
Towson head coach Rob Ambrose announced the dismissal of transfer quarterback Kevin Olsen before the former Miami Hurricane even stepped foot on the field.
The confirmation came Tuesday night with the Baltimore Sun interviewing Ambrose about the 4-star quarterback. Ambrose stated, “The relationship we had with the kid and his family has gone on for quite some time, and everybody was pretty much assured that this would work out for the positive. So it’s disappointing for Kevin, it’s disappointing for us, and we’ll just move on.
Ambrose added, “It’s a setback in that there’s one less quality player competing for the job but in truth, he never took a snap here. It’s a setback in that you believed you had a semi-proven commodity as a player who was going to compete and make the team better. But it’s not like he was anointed. He knew he was going to have to compete for the job, and there are some talented guys to compete against.”
In September the redshirt freshman was dismissed from the Hurricanes squad after a third run-in with the Miami staff after being charged with a DUI and being in possession of a fake ID.
Olsen’s troubles began before the team’s first game in 2014 picking up a two-game suspension for violation of team rules. In 2013 he was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident in his hometown of Wayne, New Jersey.
Miami signed Olsen from Wayne Hills High School as part of the 2013 recruiting class where his father is the head coach. Olsen is the younger brother of former Canes great, tight end Greg Olsen; current tight end for the Carolina Panthers.
