USC’s 2014 recruiting class was loaded with top talent that included players like do-everything athlete Adoree Jackson and behemoth offensive lineman Damien Mama. An area of need for the Trojans was a pass catching tight end that could compliment the standout receivers in former head coach Steve Sarkisian’s spread offense. The big “get” in that class was St. Bonaventure High School tight end Bryce Dixon.
The tight end position has not panned out for the Trojans in recent years and one of the reasons has been the fall of Dixon. Dixon played as a true freshman coming up with 14 receptions for 198 yards with four touchdowns but was then dismissed from the team for the 2015 season after the school conducted a Title IX sexual misconduct case brought forth by female trainers on USC’s staff.
Dixon was allowed to continue attending classes while a judge granted a stay with the then freshman appealing the decision. Dixon’s future with the Trojans program was more than likely completely put to an end on Tuesday when he was arrested for felony carjacking.
Per Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Capt. Andrew Neiman, the 19-year-old was arrested after an investigation over a “series of robberies.” The felony carjacking charge happened within a half-mile of the USC campus. Dixon is being held on a $100,000 bail. The details of the carjacking incident and series of robberies have not been further detailed.
Dixon was a 4-star recruit in 2014 ranked the No. 5 tight end in the nation by Rivals. The 6’4”, 230 pound, athlete was pushing 20 offers taking official visits to Oregon, Florida, Arizona, and USC committing to the Trojans on Jan. 4, 2014.
