The race to land one of the nation’s best offensive linemen is still wide open, but four teams are waging hard fought recruiting battles to land Eddy Pierre-Louis (6-3.5, 320). The Tampa Catholic (Fla.) standout took official visits in June to UCF and Oklahoma with two other possible paid for trips upcoming before a decision is made public.
In early September, Pierre-Louis posted his top five listing Miami, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas A&M, and UCF. One of his top schools welcomed him over the weekend on an unofficial.
“This fall, I went to UCF – that’s it,” Pierre-Louis stated. “I am going to Oklahoma on Oct. 21 when they play UCF.”
Details to the time spent in Orlando were given, “It went great. The game didn’t come out how we wanted, but it was still a good fight to the end.
“I talked to coach (Gus) Malzahn and coach (Herb) Hand (OL). With coach Malzahn, we were just chopping it up. He was asking me about how the season is going, gave me some tips, and he was telling me they need me there really badly.”
When Pierre-Louis visits Norman in mid-October, I childhood dream will be realized.
“I’ve always wanted to go to a game there since I was a kid,” Pierre-Louis shared. “Oklahoma is my dream school. I want to see how it is over there and have a great time.”
Insight into the rapport with the Sooners was given, “I’ve always had a good relationship with Oklahoma. Coach (Bill) Bedenbaugh (OL) has been recruiting me since my sophomore year. Our relationship is continuing to improve every day.”
Next month, another squad on his favorites list will welcome him to campus. Asked about upcoming official visits, Pierre-Louis said, “I’ve been to UCF and Oklahoma, I’m looking forward to Oregon as well. I think I am visiting there sometime in November.”
The bond with the Ducks’ staff was covered, “I have a great relationship with Oregon. I went up there last spring, I enjoyed the visit. When I was there, I met the players, and they were telling me about Oregon. Their coaching staff is great as well.”
Of the 55 teams to offer him, Pierre-Louis was asked which programs are reaching out to him the most.
“Miami, UCF, Oregon, and Oklahoma,” Pierre-Louis replied.
The association with the Hurricanes’ staff was explained.
“We’ve always had a nice relationship,” Pierre-Louis shared. “I went up there in July, it was a great visit. Miami is family orientated. When I was there, I kicked back with the players; I enjoyed it. I liked my position group there as well.”
Asked if there is a chance he will officially visit Miami, Pierre-Louis said, “Yes, sir.”
For the A&M fans, the Aggies are not out of contention. Pierre-Louis was asked if he is down to four schools sharing, “No. I still talk to A&M but not as much as these other schools.”
A date has not been set, but a commitment could be coming.
“No, sir,” Pierre-Louis stated. “I don’t have a commitment date yet, but I may make my decision soon.”
Success on the field is one of the parameters guiding Pierre-Louis’ commitment decision.
“I am trying to see how all of these schools do with their season, but what is most important is development and how it is with family,” Pierre-Louis shared.
