Fun Q&A Interview with Calvary Baptist QB Jake Bartley

Calvary Baptist Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana won back to back Division-III Louisiana State Championships in 2013 and 2014. During those two championship seasons the Cavaliers were led by quarterback Shea Patterson. However on July 13, Patterson announced he was transferring to IMG Academy in Florida leaving big shoes to fill under center.
Calvary Baptist head coach John Bachman looked no further than to senior Jake Bartley to lead the Cavaliers going into 2015. Bartley was the backup quarterback the last two years but has done a bit of everything for this Cavalier team. In 2014, Bartley started at running back, wide receiver, linebacker, punter, and holder on special teams.
The 6’0”, 190 pound, athlete was named first-team All-District at wide receiver and linebacker in 2014. Bartley had 337 total receiving yards and three touchdowns at receiver and at linebacker he accumulated 35 total tackles including five tackles for a loss and three sacks playing in limited minutes with the Cavs engineering landslide victories.
The Class of 2016 recruit has received interest from Louisiana-Lafayette, Southern, Northwestern State and Central Arkansas.
Bartley will need to have a monster senior season if he hopes to lead Calvary Baptist to their third straight state title.
Last week I sat down with Jake to talk about his career at Calvary Baptist, his recruiting process, and the transition from playing wide receiver to being named the new starting quarterback. I also asked him some rapid fire questions to get an idea of what the senior athlete is like off the football field.

“I love to fish and hunt and just be outdoors.”

“The West Virginia Mountaineers because that’s where my dad is from and the Oakland Raiders.”
Do you have any favorite sports teams outside of football?
“The Golden State Warriors and Arsenal in the English Premier League.”
Who is your favorite football player?
“Drew Brees and Tim Tebow.”
Who is your all-time favorite athlete?
“Bo Jackson.”
What is your favorite holiday and why?
“Christmas because its time with family and I can hunt a lot during that time and I’m off school.”
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
“Africa, there is some really good hunting there.”
Who is your favorite superhero and why?
“Batman, he doesn’t have all the powers, he’s just rich and has cool gadgets. The Batmobile is sweet.”
