Other than one of my “regular” interviews that can range anywhere from five minutes to, yes this is true, up to 45 minutes, there is no better way to get to know one’s interviewee than a rapid fire question and answer session. The “fun” or sometimes labeled “getting to know –“ interviews have been put on the shelf for about six or seven months but were dusted off after a semi-request from Fa’avae Fa’avae (God bless him).

For readers not familiar with Fa’avae Fa’avae, he is a rising star in the 2017 recruiting class. Currently ranked as a 3-star recruit after a breakout 2015 season, wait for that star ranking to slide up a bit after the camp circuit and certainly by the end of his senior campaign, Fa’avae has landed four Division-I offers from Arizona State, Colorado State, Hawaii, and Louisville after coming up with 59 tackles, 19 tackles for a loss, 12.5 sacks, 20 quarterback hurries, one pick-six, one strip fumble return for a touchdown 10-yard, two forced fumbles, and three pass deflections for Mater Dei High School; completing my longest run-on sentence ever laid down (mouse drop).

What Fa’avae (6-1, 210) brings to the field in a ridiculous stat line, he matches that spirit and energy with enjoyment and life off the field. Ever the pleasant person to be around, the “fun” Q&A was dusted off to spend a little bit more time around the southern California talent.

In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive getting to know you Q&A interview, I put Fa’avae through the pop quiz finding out some of the important things in life like his favorite movies, favorite actors, and any other odd or interesting quirks that he may have, as we all do, off the field.

Q&A Interview

Fa’avae, you have to know how special this is for me to dust this off for you.

“I’m ready.”

Okay, this may be the best or worst interview you ever go through in your life.

“Let’s do it.”

I was afraid you’d still want to do it. Okay, first question. What is your favorite movie?

“Friday.”

Who is your favorite actor?

“Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Titanic).”

Who is your favorite actress?

“Megan Good (Anchor Man 2 and Minority Report). No wait, it is a tie with Megan Fox (Transformers).”

What is your favorite TV show?

“Walker Texas Ranger (1993-2001).”

Wait, what? Was that show even on when you were alive? Don’t answer that. I don’t want to feel any older than I already feel.

“I was old enough. My grandpa and I use to watch those shows.”

Well okay. What is your favorite book?

“This Ray Lewis book I just started reading, “I Feel Like Going On.”

What is your favorite type of music?

“Old School.”

I’m sensing your father’s influence here.

(Laughs)

What is your favorite song?

“New Horizons song “I Can’t Tell You.”

Yes, definitely a parental influence here. What music do you listen to getting hyped for a game or practice?

“I listen to oldies like Mack Morrison’s “Return of the Mack.”

Okay definitely your father’s influence coming through here. Do you have a pregame ritual?

“I always say a prayer and get a blessing to protect our team and our opponents. I also have a secret handshake with one of my teammates.”

Do you speak any foreign languages or have any unique talents?

“I can speak Samoan. That’s pretty much it.”

That’s cool. What is your favorite type of food?

“Coco Rice, it’s a Samoan food. Hot coco on rice with fresh bread. It’s great.”

Do you have a favorite game system like PlayStation or X-Box?

“I don’t play games.”

Okay good, because if you would have said Sega or Nintendo the interview would have been over. Then I would know you’re playing with me. What is your favorite subject in school?

“Math, by far.”

What is your least favorite subject?

“History.”

Who is your favorite all-time athlete?

“Ohhh, let me see, Ray Lewis.”

I’m telling your father (played at Cal) and J.R. Redmond (close family friend, former NFL running back).

(Laughs)

Which holiday is your favorite holiday?

“It has to be Christmas. It’s the day after my dad’s birthday, the family comes together.”

Best or worst questions for you in an interview ever! If you could be a superhero which superhero would you be?

“Deadpool.”

Have you seen the movie already?

“Yeah it was funny. It was pretty good. I liked it.”

Does not have to be football related but can be, which team is your favorite professional sports team?

“The Dodgers.”

That’s a true Los Angeles area raised guy right there. I like it. Fa’avae, thanks for encouraging me to dust the fun Q&A questions off. I had a great time.

“I did too. Thank you.”

Pleasure was all mine. Good luck with your camps coming up.

“Thank you.”
