KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Sunshine State is loaded with fantastic athletes that can seemingly do anything asked of them at their given position on the gridiron. At Mandarin High School in Jacksonville (Fla.), Hylton “Drake” Stubbs (6-2, 186) embodies that notion. The four-star has collected 17 offers thus far with more elite programs deepening their scouting of the elite safety.
Of the offering teams, frequent correspondence is coming in from Florida, Florida State, Tennessee, Penn State, USC, Michigan, and Oklahoma. That list will add some company during the spring evaluation period.
“Notre Dame, Michigan State, Georgia, Alabama, and I am receiving some interest from Clemson,” Stubbs said.
The Gators are one of two teams that have hosted Stubbs this spring.
“I went there for the spring game, that was pretty cool,” Stubbs stated. “(WR) Marcus Burke and (RB) Treyaun Webb played; I played with them when I was younger. It was cool to see them play some ball.”
Stubbs spoke about how well the Gators’ defense performed.
“The offense only scored one touchdown,” Stubbs shared. “The defense was going crazy.”
Over in Tallahassee, that visit was also about family.
“I was there for a scrimmage,” Stubbs said. “I watched my brother (DB Harold Stubbs IV) play. He made a lot of plays. I also talked to coach (Mike) Norvell, that was pretty cool. The scrimmage was awesome.”
Stubbs continued sharing his thoughts on FSU’s program with his insider’s knowledge, “It is a great program. If my brother can fit in there, I can fit in there. Because of my brother, I get to see a little bit more of the program than others.”
Four schools are on Stubbs visit wish list.
“Tennessee, USC, and Michigan are three schools I am trying to get up to,” Stubbs shared. “Notre Dame too; that would be a nice school to visit.”
A previous trip to Knoxville has Stubbs wanting to return.
“I visited Tennessee last summer, it was a great visit,” Stubbs stated. “I have talked to them since then. I want to get back up there to see what is new. They are supposed to get a new facility, I want to see that progress. It was nice when I visited, I want to do it again.”
When the summer college camp circuit gets going, Stubbs is ready to showcase his skills for a few teams.
“I am planning on going to two or three big ones,” Stubbs said. “Clemson, I haven’t got an offer from them; I want to grab one of those. There are not a lot in my class that have one to Clemson, I want to be one of the first. I will probably camp at Alabama and Georgia, I gotta get those two, and probably Michigan.”
