The Bulldogs heat on the recruiting trail was not diminished by the surprise announcement of five-star Class of 2016 wide receiver/athlete Demetris Robertson picking Cal on Sunday when equally as talented Class of 2017 wide receiver Trey Blount sided with Georgia.
Blount made the move in the offseason from Hillgrove (Powder Springs) to Pace Academy helping the Knights to a 14-2 mark in 2015. In 15 games (MaxPreps), Blount secured 36 passes covering 642 yards with nine touchdowns. The 6’2”, 185 pound, athlete added 82 yards on the ground and 276 yards on 13 kickoff returns and another 64 off six punt returns. The Atlanta area four-star also shined on defense coming up with two interceptions, 20 tackles, 16 solo, and a tackle for a loss filing in as a free safety.
The buzz for Blount continued to rise during the offseason seeing his offer sheet pushed to nearly 30 reported. Among the many to extend a scholarship offer included Florida, Auburn, Notre Dame, Mississippi State, Kansas State, Miami, Michigan State, Oregon, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, South Carolina, Alabama, Oklahoma, and LSU.
Blount took unofficial visits during the spring to Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn, and Georgia before making his commitment. His announcement went national via Twitter with the following post:
Georgia now has nine verbal commitments to their 2017 recruiting class. The Bulldogs have slid into the No. 5 spot in 247Sports overall recruiting rankings with Blount’s commitment. Ohio State, Oklahoma, Miami, and Notre Dame fill in the other top four spots in the rankings.
