Georgia Fights off SEC Schools for in-state 4-Star OLB Jaleel Laguins
Written by Ryan Wright
On July 29, Jaleel Laguins announced his verbal commitment date putting 20-plus colleges on notice. When the commitment came on Wednesday the Georgia Bulldogs had kept the Oconee County in-state talent.
The 6’1”, 215 pound, athlete did a little bit of everything for the Warriors last year including lining up as a short-yardage back rushing 21 times for 139 yards with four scores. The defensive statistics are incomplete but Laguins had at least 60 tackles with five tackles for a loss as a junior in 2014.
Alabama, Florida, Missouri, Kentucky, Florida State, Penn State, Tennessee, Central Florida, Nebraska, North Carolina, and Oklahoma are among the many schools to offer the Watkinsville area star. The announcement had to be especially difficult for Auburn. The Tigers’ staff hosted Laguins on several occasions including a visit over the weekend.
Laguins has been complimentary of the UGA coaching staff and how hard head coach Mark Richt, inside linebackers coach Mike Ekeler, and defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt have recruited him.
Laguins is the first linebacker commitment for Georgia for the 2016 recruiting class.
