Top talent continues to fly off the proverbial shelves with college football teams packing their 2024 classes. The latest splash along the recruiting trail was Monday’s verbal commitment by Joshua Ofor to NC State.
The relationship between the Mundy’s Mill High School (Jonesboro, Ga.) three-star linebacker/safety and the Wolfpack gained momentum over the spring.
“They were talking to me before the offered in the spring; they offered me in June,” Ofor said. “That opened up things. The main thing was getting me on campus. Coach Gibby (Tony Gibson – DC/LB) wanted me up there instantly.”
For Ofor, NC State was a draw early in his process and was aided by a friendly referral.
“I liked the way they played, I liked the recruits that they have there, and they are active,” Ofor shared. “I know one of the guys that is committed there, (RB) Jayden Scott (Stockbridge). As soon as I was offered, he was talking to me about NC State; I thought it must be a good place.”
Ofor explained what put the Wolfpack ahead of the other 22 teams that dropped offers.
“I was a priority,” Ofor stated. “When I got on campus, everything lined up; the city, the players, the coaches, the atmosphere, and the university as a whole.”
NC State hosted Ofor for an official visit the weekend of Sept. 8. That trip to Raleigh tied player to team.
“I committed on Saturday night during my visit,” Ofor said. “I committed to coach (Jatavis) Sanders (dir. scouting).”
That commitment was kept silent until the following day.
“That moment wasn’t much, but when I told coach Gibby and coach (Dave) Doeren on Sunday during a meeting with them, that was the moment. We were in the facilities with the other coaches, coach Doeren were congratulating me; it made me happy.”
Ofor spoke about his feelings knowing he gets to play P5 ball with NC State in college, “It is a dream to be honest. I thought it was coming in basketball for me, I’ve always wanted to play high level sports.”
Wolfpack fans will get to see Ofor at Carter-Finley Stadium again this season.
“I am going back for the UNC game (Nov. 25) with Chad Fairchild (2026 Lovejoy HS LB prospect),” Ofor shared.
Ofor is the 19th commitment to the Wolfpack’s 2023 class.
