One way to surmise the play of Andrew Stargel – size, versatility, technique, and the strength to finish plays. Stretching the tape at 6-4 and tipping the scale at 285, Stargel was a big piece up front for the Hornets allowing QB KJ Smith to spin it for over 2,500 yards and running back Nykahi Davenport to romp for over 1,700 yards. As the tape goes out on the Roswell High School (Ga.) three-star, offers and interest are coming in for the 2025 prospect.
As a sophomore, Stargel tallied 41 knockdowns bringing his bullish style of play to the field. At the conclusion of his junior season, his abilities are leveling up after lining up at both guard and tackle.
“As an offensive lineman, I feel like the things I do well are being aggressive and controlling that aggressiveness by not getting flags,” Stargel said. “Finishing blocks, I do well at that.”
Roswell’s offense was covered.
“We run an RPO (run-pass option) offense, but we mostly ran the ball,” Stargel stated. “We do lots of shifts, trades, and tackle overs. The offense is heavy on runs but we throw deep every once in a while. We ran a college level offense this year.”
Putting defenders on roller skates is aided by his weight room dedication.
“My bench is 350,” Stargel shared. “I haven’t squatted in a while, but my last max was 500 pounds. My power clean is 275, I am working on that, and my deadlift is 650.”
Asked if there is an overlooked aspect to his game, Stargel replied, “People would be surprised how athletic I am. Once I stretch, I am athletic for my size.”
After the Hornets’ 11-2 run this fall, the focus is now on offseason training.
“I am definitely working on getting stronger and on my movement; that is what I will work on,” Stargel stated. “I may gain some muscle weight, but I want to move well and be light on my feet.”
Arkansas State, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Massachusetts, and South Florida had already dropped opportunities. On Dec. 1, Stargel added number six from the Kansas Jayhawks.
“Some offers are over the phone, but like Cincinnati, they will come to my school and pull me out of class to meet them and they tell you then,” Stargel shared. “Kansas told me in person.”
More company is building up to join Stargel’s six offers.
“North Carolina, Auburn is a little bit, Tennessee, Colorado State is a little bit, Wake Forest, Duke – there’s a lot of teams showing interest but that is all I can think of right now.”
When talking about his skills on the field, that ability to be a bully is something next level scouts enjoy seeing.
“A lot of coaches have told me that I am a jerk on the field,” Stargel said. “They will say stuff like I am athletic and a ball player. They like the film, they really do.”
Game-day visits were taken building rapport with area college programs.
“I went on four visits this fall,” Stargel shared. “My first was to Auburn; that was really fun. UNC, that was my second one. They were showing interest but haven’t offered yet. Georgia Tech, that was really fun. They show lots of interest; they are heavily recruiting me. Cincinnati, that was fun. They are heavily recruiting me too.”
A trip to Lawrence is a strong possibility.
“There is a possibility of visiting Kansas unofficially, but I am not sure yet,” Stargel stated. “Depending on what the future holds, I will take more unofficial visits. Whatever happens, you have to check that out.”
Other teams that may see Stargel on campus in the near future includes Georgia Tech, Cincinnati, and South Florida.
