The recruiting process can be long and grinding or it can be quick and easy. For Judd Anderson (6-7, 220), it did not take long for the 2024 three-star quarterback to find his next level fit. An offer came from Miami on March 3, by April 7, Anderson was a Canes commit.
The month-long courting from offer to commitment was detailed.
“It picked up as it went along,” Anderson said. “Coach (Shannon) Dawson (OC/QB) started texting me a little bit and then we started getting on the phone gradually and constantly building up until the offer. Once the offer hit, it was like an explosion. I was on group text chains and constant tags every day. I just talked to those guys every day until it became a constant recruiting type deal.”
Anderson shared his thoughts on playing for a head coach who is a former collegiate offensive lineman with a focus on the trenches.
“It is definitely, what’s the word… relieving,” Anderson stated. “It is relieving to have a guy like coach (Mario) Cristobal in there. You see what he did at Oregon, you see what he did recruiting the offensive line at Oregon – he got those big dudes.”
After seeing the Hurricanes practice, Anderson continued talking about Miami’s offensive linemen, “Looking at their o-line now, they are young, but they are huge. They are just mammoth on the line. You watch practice and they are moving people. They are creating run lanes and creating a good pocket. It definitely plays a big role.”
On his commitment to Miami, Anderson shared, “I really enjoyed the relationship we had. They were checking all the boxes for me in what they are doing, and what I wanted in a program. Being in Coral Gables, I felt the connection as soon as I hit campus.”
Stepping foot for the first time on campus left an impression on Anderson.
“The indoor facility for sure,” Anderson said. “I really enjoyed their indoor facility, and that weight room is awesome. The offices, from coach’s office to everything about it, it is sleek, it is modern, it is the place to be. There are practice fields everywhere, you can’t find a better place.”
Anderson was able to show off the arm talent during the 2022 season with Jones County (Gray, Ga.). Taking on 5A competition, Anderson threw for 1,776 yards with 15 touchdowns and scored two rushing touchdowns.
