The Cougars got their first verbal commitment in the 2018 class on Friday with three-star in-state running back Kelan Walker.
Walker was part of a fierce DeSoto High School’s ground attack that rolled for a collective 4,594 yards with 68 touchdowns scored in 2016. Their 6-0, 205 pound, back was second on the Eagles squad in yards gained with 809 and touchdowns scored with 16 off just 113 totes. Walker also had three receptions for 55 yards and returned six kickoffs for 79 yards in 2016. The output by Walker was a big jump up in responsibilities after a sophomore season with 55 carries for 427 yards with five scores.
The tough running by Walker against 6A Texas opposition on the Texway to a 16-0 season caught the eye of college coaches throughout the region. Offers came in for the junior from Texas-San Antonio, Tulsa, Colorado, New Mexico, SMU, Louisiana-Monroe, and Iowa State.
Walker posted his commitment statement on Twitter:
