There were some amazing personal performances turned in across the high school football landscape in 2018 and Kevin Compton was one of them. The 6-2, 165-pound, safety secured his spot as a top-notch national talent picking off 10 passes with 38 tackles, 15 solo, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble. He also chipped in on offense for Watson Chapel securing 18 passes for 290 yards with six touchdowns against Arkansas 5A competition. The word on Compton is spreading among the collegiate ranks with Tennessee-Martin being the first program to offer with interest building among Big 12, Sun Belt, and SEC staffs.
In an RNG catch-up interview, I sat down with Compton covering his offseason work with an update on recruiting ahead of his unofficial to Baylor this weekend.

Interview
Kevin, how are the offseason workouts coming along?
“They are going pretty good. I’m in baseball now. In about a couple of weeks I will transition back fully to football.”
How is your baseball season going?
“Good. We are struggling a little as a team. I am hitting well, I am doing as much as I can for the team.”
Do you know your stats, batting average or power numbers?
“I know I have a .350 average, one triple and five doubles.”
Nice. Where are you playing this season?
“Centerfield.”
Back to football, when you have been working out, where are you seeing the biggest improvements in the work you are putting into your game on defense as a safety?
“I am seeing the biggest improvements with my technique. I am working on that hard. I keep working on being aggressive and my form.”
What about on offense as a receiver?
“I am working on my route running and being a game changer for my team.”
How is 7v7 with Arkansas Elite going?
“It is going good. We lost our first tournament, I could not play in it.”
Have you attended any national camps this offseason?
“Yes, sir. I went to a Rivals and U.S. Army All-American camp.”
How did the Adidas camp go?
“It was good. I had some good plays and balled out.”
What is the best 40-yard dash you’ve posted this offseason?
“My best is a 4.52.”
Do you have any upcoming camps you may attend?
“Yes, sir. I am going to a Baylor, and I am visiting them on Saturday.”
Cool. Nice transition. Which schools are showing interest?
“I am receiving interest from Baylor, ULM (Louisiana-Monroe), Arkansas State, Houston, TCU, Memphis, FIU (Florida Atlantic), Missouri, Kansas State, Army, Yale, and Rice. Baylor seems to be very interested. They told me they feel that I am really talented and that my 10 picks last season is not normal. They said my reel was phenomenal. They want to get me up there this Saturday. The camp is in May. I am looking forward to that camp.”
All very positive and great news. Since we spoke last you had another great piece of news with an offers. Which program offered you?
“Tennessee-Martin.”
Congrats.
“Thank you.”
Which schools have you visited recently?
“ULM, TCU, and Arkansas State.”
How did the ULM visit go?
“It went well. The ULM coaches are coming this spring to see me and Arkansas State said the same as well.”
How did the TCU visit go?
“It went well. I talked to coaches for a little bit. They like my build, and that I am long and athletic. They want to come watch me this spring as well.”
And what about Arkansas State, how did that go?
“That was a very good visit. I talked to head coach Blake Anderson personally. We had a very good conversation. They seem very interested in me.”
You have the Baylor camp on the schedule, have you started looking ahead to any college camps yet?
“Yes, sir. I am looking at Alabama and Arkansas.”
Do you have a message for those out there who may not know about your game yet?
“Yes. I am a football player. I had 10 picks last season, that speaks for itself. I am a baller and I continue to prove what I can do on the field.”
I like it. Kevin, thanks for your time today and good luck this weekend at Baylor.
“Thank you.”
