When the 2017 California high school football season had concluded, senior receiver Kashan Griffin had proven to be one of the more explosive talents in the 2018 class throughout the Golden State. The Apple Valley High School standout pulled in 33 passes for 490 yards with 11 receiving scores posted on the board. To further prove his overall athletic status, Griffin (6-0, 165) carried the rock six times for 67 yards with another score going up on the board and took back 11 kickoffs for 445 yards and two punts for another 60. If taking a third of every pass in for a score and averaging 40.5 yards per kick return with 17 total touchdowns was not enough, he also doubled in the Sun Devils secondary coming up with 20 stops, a tackle for a loss, a forced fumble, and two picks.

On July 25, a long recruiting process came to an end for Griffin, a.k.a “The Water Moccasin”, with a commitment and signing to San Diego State. In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I sat down with the newest member of the Aztecs’ 2018 class one day ahead of his reporting to San Diego State for the inside scoop on how SDSU became his ideal next level fit.

Interview

Kashan, congratulations on your commitment and signing with San Diego State.

“Thank you.”

When did you commit and sign with the Aztecs?

“I committed and signed on (Wednesday) July 25.”

How did San Diego State become the ideal next level fit for you and what was the recruiting process like with the coaching staff?

“The SDSU staff treats you like family. I knew SDSU would be a great home for me, and it is closer to family. Coach Coop (Hunkie Cooper – receivers) treats me like family.”

What was that moment like for you telling the staff you wanted to be an Aztec?

“They were very excited as was I.”

Which position did they recruit you to play?

“Receiver.”

How do they plan to use you within their offense?

“They want to use my speed and quickness in their offense. I fit well in their scheme. I have to go out there and prove I can win in one-on-one situations.”

Are they going to line you up on the outside or on the inside?

“I’m not sure yet if I will be on the outside or inside.”

How have you been preparing for fall camp this summer?

“I have been training with my trainer a lot this summer.”

What has been the focus of your summer workouts with your skillset?

“I have been working on my explosiveness, my hands, and my route running.”

When do you report?

“I report on Monday.”

Do you know what you will do on Monday?

“We have a day of physicals and then we start learning the playbook and put the helmets on.”

What will that moment be like for you stepping onto the field for your first college football practice?

“I think it will be nerve racking, but I will get used to it.”

Most freshmen redshirt, no matter what happens, redshirt or play early, what goals have you set for yourself during the 2018 season?

“I just want to improve every day.”

Kashan, thanks for your time today and good luck at fall camp with the Aztecs.

“Thank you; and go Aztecs.”
