When the 2018 season rolled around, Tahj Wright became the ultimate team-first utility player for Ridgeview High School. Taking on California Division I talent, Wright filled in at quarterback as needed throwing for 174 yards with two scores and rushed for 289 yards off 41 totes with four touchdowns. He even pulled in 11 passes for 123 yards with two more trips into the end zone. On defense, he came up with 20 tackles, a tackle for a loss, two forced fumbles, defended 10 passes, and picked off four. Interest came in for Wright (6-0, 180) but with game film all over the field, perhaps not enough game film at one position was provided for all the offers to start rolling in as expected for the three-star recruit. With National Signing Day passing on February 6, Wright remains available for some luck program.
In an RNG catch-up interview, I sat down with Wright touching on his senior season and the character of the three-sport Bakersfield area product.

Interview
Tahj, you were a team-first guy last season playing quarterback as needed and then played some corner and free safety. You did so much, how do you feel you showcased your overall athleticism last season?
“I feel that I was able to showcase my skills in a good way, but I did not get to highlight all that I can do. I think that might be why coaches are not responding. I tried to do my best for my team.”
What about your leadership? It takes a special individual to not think about themselves needing a stat line especially as a senior.
“For me, there is no “I” in team. I have the mentality that I cannot do this by myself, it takes a team effort. The game is about discipline, all the little things matter.”
You were drawing some recruiting interest from very good schools, what do you think all programs are missing out in a player such as yourself?
“I’m loyal to my team and I am a hardworking guy. Whoever takes me, they will be blessed with all that I have. Whoever takes me, I will show them what I can do.”
What have you been doing this offseason working on your abilities?
“I have been running track and working out.”
Which events in track?
“The 4×1 and 100.”
Nice. Back to recruiting. Putting all the pieces of the puzzle together, which pieces would make up the ideal collegiate landing spot?
“I am focused on school, I want to major in public health. Everything is academics first for me to earn my degree.”
I know you also play basketball, how did the season go?
“We had a young team, it was a hard season.”
How did you do personally? Do you remember your stat line?
“I averaged 20 points per game.”
A true standout athlete. Tahj, always great catching up with you. I wish you success on the recruiting trail.
“Thank you.”
