Playing for national powerhouse high school football team St. John Bosco has its advantages. The practices are harder than most of the games teams play in a given season with a wealth of five-, four-, and three-star rated talents competing against one another. From the practice field to the games, Josh Alford has been able to hone his craft as defensive back/nickelback for the Braves building up a list of college programs showing interest. Great news came Alford’s way on Thursday, Feb. 7, when Rutgers extended an offer to the 5-10, 175-pound, defender.
For insight on Alford’s first football scholarship offer and an update on his busy spring recruiting visit schedule, I sat down with the Los Angeles area talent for a quick update interview.

Interview
Josh, I want to start off congratulating you on your offer from Rutgers.
“Thank you.”
How did the Scarlet Knights inform you of your first offer?
“I learned from my Premium 7v7 coach, he texted me I had received the offer. I hadn’t had a lot of contact with them beforehand, but I have been in touch with them a lot since texting back-and-forth getting to know each other.”
What was that moment like for you realizing a personal goal had been accomplished?
“Honestly, it took my breath away. I couldn’t believe it. I was proud and thankful. I called my dad and let him know I can go to college for free.”
That’s awesome. What was your Dad’s reaction to the great news?
“He was happy for me. Rutgers is in New Jersey; my grandfather lives there and I have a lot of other family there. He was very happy.”
Any level of personal success always pushes the motivated even harder, how are your offseason workouts coming along?
“They are going really well. I am working hard with my teammates and by myself to be prepared for my senior season.”
How would you grade your 7v7 action with Premium thus far?
“So far, I guess I would give myself an A. We have not played a lot of games yet. I have done well. There have not been a lot of balls have been thrown my way.”
I know you competed at the Nike Opening Regional in Los Angeles, how did that go for you?
“It went well. It was fun to compete against some of the top dudes in the country. It was fun competing against friends. I got to pick the brains of some great coaches while I was there. I learned a lot.”
Are there any other upcoming national camps you have on the schedule?
“I am going to the Nike Opening in Oakland.”
That’ll be fun. Circling back to recruiting. Which schools are showing interest?
“Fresno State, Colorado, Stanford, Yale, and Harvard are all showing interest.”
Are you going to get a chance this spring to visit any schools?
“Yes. Next week I am going down south with Premium on some visits. We are going to Georgia State, Georgia, Clemson, Kentucky, Louisville, and Cincinnati.”
You guys will be busy. Josh, it was great catching up with you today and I want to wish you success on all your upcoming visits.
“Thank you.”
