Watching film on Class of 2022 quarterback Peter Zamora, the present skillset displayed is impressive but the best is yet to come. The 6-0, 175-pound, gunslinger took on top Florida 8A competition with Monarch High School (6-4) this season completing 134 of 193 passes for 2,170 yards with 26 touchdowns against only five interceptions. Zamora showed ingenuity and his growing play-making skills in the Knights’ Air Raid offense bringing in an offer from Florida Atlantic with other east coast squads showing interest.

In an RNG exclusive interview, I sat down with one of the Sunshine State’s rising sophomore stars to learn more about his game.

Interview

Peter, the Knights played some of the best teams in Florida this season. The experience you picked up is immeasurable. How did your understanding of the game improve throughout the 2019 season?

“My understanding grew from spring to the last game of the season. Early on in the season I was picking up the game speed from JV to varsity. On my film you can see, I played better as the season went on from the game experience. I have always done my pre-snap reads the same, but this season I was taking more time doing it and thinking about it before the snap. I was being more careful on each play and preparing ahead of time. The more film you watch the better prepared you are.”

Agreed. What offensive set are the Knights running?

“We run an Air Raid no-huddle spread offense.”

How does the scheme fit your talents?

“I take pride in getting the ball out quick and reading defenses. Throwing the ball well and taking them by surprise fits me in this offense.”

Which routes are you throwing to this season?

“Cover 3 beaters – digs, manipulating linebackers, posts and seams.”

Again, given all the talented teams and players you have gone up against, how did your overall game including your technique and mechanics improve in 2019?

“This year, the improvements really showed. I take pride in my mechanics. I had to adjust my mechanics to get the ball out quicker on different plays. I was changing my arm angles or throwing off my back foot at times to make plays. Doing things like that made me better this year.”

Exploring your talents on the field. I like it. Of the games played, which was your top performance?

“I’d say the Coconut Creek game. We were down 21-0, after I threw two pick-sixes. The halftime score was 21-7. We made a comeback against a team we had not beaten since 2014. I threw three touchdowns to make that comeback. I had that next play mentality. It was a great experience to be a part of.”

There is an offer on the table from Florida Atlantic, which schools are showing interest?

“USF, UAB, UNC-Charlotte, Morgan State and Brown are showing interest. I am already getting a lot of camp invites.”

Nice. Have you taken any visits this fall?

“Yes. I took game day visits to FAU and USF.”

How did the FAU trip go?

“It went well. I was there this past Saturday for their game against FIU – for the Shula Bowl. They have always shown great hospitality for me there. They have a great atmosphere at FAU.”

And the USF visit in Tampa?

“It was great. We made the drive there for their game at Bucs Stadium against SMU. They said they are interested in me but they can’t talk to me now because of my classification, but that they will follow for years to come.”

That is great news to keep you going. Last question. With the offseason here, what do you plan on working on through the winter and spring months?

“My biggest thing is to get stronger and faster. I want to build up my body to pass that college eye test. I want to look the part of a college athlete.”

Peter, thanks for your time today and good luck with your offseason workouts.

“Thank you.”
