Interview: 2022 RB Daryl Searcy Jr. Talks 2,000 Yard All-Purpose Season and Arkansas Visit

There is no doubt that Class of 2022 running back/athlete Daryl Searcy Jr. is a special talent. Freshmen playing varsity football are not supposed to do what he did during the 2018 season, and that is rush for 1,000 yards with eight scores and pass for 1,000 yards with six more touchdowns going up on the board. The 6-0, 183-pound, playmaker played a hybrid role for Forrest City High School as a running back and Wildcat quarterback creating called for hype on his future. Area colleges are already responding with interest coming in from Memphis and in-state power Arkansas.

Fresh off a visit with the Razorbacks on Saturday, I sat down with one of the Natural State’s players to watch going forward learning more about his play on the field and trip to Fayetteville

Interview

Daryl, how did the 2018 season go for you on the field?

“It was good. I wish we would have had a better record, but it was a fantastic season.”

Which areas of your game showed the biggest improvements last season as a running back?

“My vision and becoming an even tough runner were my biggest improvements last season.”

With you also playing quarterback, how did your game come along at that position?

“It came along really well. My biggest improvement as a quarterback was reading the defenses.”

What do you feel are the strengths to your game as you make that transition into high school?

“I am a strong runner with good field vision.”

It may be too early to know, but will we see you at multiple positions on the field next season?

“I think I will stay at one position this season, I will stay at running back.”

Are you excited about focusing in at running back during your sophomore season?

“Yes, sir.”

What are you working on this offseason with your game?

“I am working on speed, strength, agility, and acceleration.”

Have you gone to any camps and/or combines this offseason?

“Yes, sir. I went to the Nike Opening Regional combine (Dallas).”

How did that go for you?

“It went great. I ran a 4.8 laser-timed 40.”

Given your age and that it was laser-timed, that is great.

“Thank you.”

Are there any upcoming camps you may attend?

“Yes, sir. I am planning on attending a Baylor camp, USA Football, and the Beast of Texas Camp.”

Your play on the field last year has created a lot of buzz. Are you receiving recruiting interest yet?

“Yes, sir. I am receiving interest from Arkansas and Memphis.”

Nice. Have you taken any unofficial visits yet?

“Yes, sir. I have visited Arkansas and Memphis.”

How did the visit to Fayetteville go?

“It was great. I saw my cousin Koilan Jackson (WR) when I was up there.”

That’s great. What all did you do during your visit?

“I went to a festival, ate a lot, and saw the spring game.”

What did you think of the scrimmage?

“It was great. The offense was great.”

When did you go to Memphis and how did that visit go?

“I was there for a camp last summer. It was great, I ran a 4.6 at their camp.”

Do you have any planned visits you may take upcoming?

“Yes, sir. I am planning on visiting Baylor.”

Are you playing any other sports for Forrest City?

“I play basketball and run track.”

Which events in track are you running?

“The 100, long and high jump, and the 4×1.”

When you are not doing a football related activity, what are you doing for fun?

“I play Fortnight.”

Do you watch any online videos of college and/or NFL running backs, when you do, who are you watching to learn more about the game?

“I watch old school running backs like Eric Dickerson, he has great vision and speed.”

What is your favorite subject in school?

“Math.”
