Interview

Amir, when you ended the 2020 high school football season, what did you feel were the strengths to your overall game on offense?

My strengths were getting to my spot, catching the ball in traffic, and being explosive in the open field when I got the opportunity.

When the 2021 season gets going, what roles are you taking on?

I am going both ways this year. I am playing corner, safety, receiver, and punt and kick returner. This season I will be doing everything.

What style of offense are you guys operating this fall?

A Spread.

Which routes are you running within the scheme this season?

A lot of fades, go routes, posts, and comebacks.

Going into the offseason, what have you focused on as a receiver?

I have been working on my speed – everything really, but mainly my speed, getting quicker and faster. Everything needs work.

For your roles on defense, what have you been working on?

For defense, all the same things, speed, my hips, and being more flexible.

What exercises have you been doing to increase your speed and agility?

Stretching a lot, that is my main priority. I have been doing sand workouts, and I am working out two to three times a day.

With your speed, what is the best 40-yard dash time you’ve posted this spring or summer?

A 4.5 at Texas A&M.

Clutch. Do you compete in any other varsity sports for the Spartans?

I am the starting point guard on the basketball team.

When your senior season wraps, what goals will you have accomplished?

My goals are to be my best self in everything I do, and to go to college for free so my mom will not have to pay for it.

Let’s make that turn into recruiting. You mentioned the A&M camp, which colleges did you compete at this summer?

A&M, Georgia as a defensive back, Alabama, and Louisiana-Lafayette.

You put down a great 40 at the A&M camp, how did your overall performance go?

My performance went very well. I played receiver there.

Do you have a preference in a position for the next level?

No, sir. I just want to play ball.

The Georgia camp, which position did you play there and how did that go?

I played DB there; I didn’t lose a rep at Georgia or Alabama. At the Georgia camp, I stood out. I went both ways at that camp.

What all did you showcase of your skills in front of the Georgia coaches?

On offense, I showcased my route running, going for deep balls, and my ability to jump over people to get the ball. As a defensive back, guarding and pressing.

Which programs are now showing interest?

Houston, Baylor, TCU, SFA (Stephen F. Austin), Illinois, Lamar, and Memphis.

Have you picked up that first offers?

Yes, I have an offer from Texas Southern.

Receiving that offer from TSU, what was that moment like for you?

It was exciting. I felt blessed. Not too many people get the chance to play college football. I am happy they believe in me.

Did you visit any programs this summer?

Yes, I took an unofficial to A&M

What did you see and do during the visit?

I saw the facilities, the locker room, and took pictures doing the photo shoot. I liked A&M. Everyone was happy there. They have positive vibes there.

Amir, it was fun covering ground with you today. Wishing you and the team the best of luck this fall on the field.

Thank you, sir.
