After a breakthrough freshman season with Summit High School, Class of 2023 dual-threat Marquis Roby is ready to showcase the improved skills this year with Riverside Prep. The 6-2, 205-pound, talent slung the pigskin around for 670 yards with five scores and rushed for 93 yards and three more touchdowns in seven games last season. When the 2020 schedule kicks off in California, Roby will be running an Air Raid with multiple concepts with the Silver Knights. And he will be doing so with two offers in his back pocket and plenty of curious college football programs watching.
In an RNG update interview, Roby covers ground on his offseason workouts, playing club ball, and his recruiting process.

Interview
Marquis, over the offseason you made that move from Summit to Riverside Prep High School. What offense will you be running with the new team?
Mostly Air Raid. We run an Air Raid. Sometimes we’re are in an empty set and we are in a Pistol too. We will be passing a lot this season out of the Spread.
What are some of the routes your receivers will be running?
A lot of corners, meshes, posts, speed outs, and snag routes, but mostly corners.
How do you feel your skills fit into the offense?
By the passing over the run. I feel like I can make all the passes. All the passing is really good for me. It is a great fit.
When we spoke last you were set on several areas of your game that you had honed in on to fine-tune before the season began. How have your workouts gone?
They are great. I am still working on the same stuff. You can never be too good at anything.
What are you focused on with your technique?
As of right now, stepping up in the pocket, setting my feet, and throwing on the run.
What have you been doing to increase your velocity and accuracy?
Throwing into trash cans and going out and practicing. My arm is strong. I am trying to perfect my game by continually doing it.
How have you worked to expand your football IQ?
I watch a lot of film, watch QBs, and talk to college QBs to soak up what they are learning.
How have you continued to stay sharp during the offseason? Are you going to camps, club, or playing 7v7?
I am playing club ball with Next Step Elite.
How is that season going?
We have played three games. We are 1-2 right now. In our last one, we lost in overtime. We are doing really well. We have a bunch of new guys trying to come together as one.
After all the work put into your game and now putting that against live action, where are you seeing the improvements in your game?
In making better throws, and the accuracy on my corner routes and speed outs. I am making the big boy throws. I am seeing that improvement in padded football.
Nice. Let’s close talking about recruiting. Which schools are showing interest?
FAU and UNLV.
You’ve picked up some offers, which schools have offered you?
Maryland and Ohio.
Which program was the first to offer?
Ohio.
What was that moment like for you receiving your first football scholarship offer?
It was exciting. I felt blessed. It was very exciting, and really nice.
How did Maryland offer you?
I was on my way home from practice when my recruiter called and said there was someone from Maryland who wanted to talk to me. They got on the call, told me to keep my grades up and that they liked my film, and then they offered me.
Very cool. When visits get going again, are there any on your list you’d like to go see?
Yes, I’d like to visit TCU, North Carolina, and Oregon. I want to see a lot of schools.
Marquis, great catching up with you today. I appreciate your time. Wishing you and your team success playing club ball this winter.
Thank you, sir.
