Expectations on the gridiron are always high for Rome High School. The Wolves are coming off a 9-3 campaign with senior dual-threat quarterback Caleb Ellard returning leaving the fanbase hopeful for a deep run in the 2020 Georgia 6A playoffs. As the present looks bright for Rome, so does the future. As Ellard seeks to cap off a magical senior season, a star signal caller is being groomed to help carry the torch for the Wolves for seasons to come in Reece Fountain.
If needed in a pinch or to close out blowout wins, Fountain can step onto the field for the Wolves to get the job accomplished. The 6-0, 161-pound, quarterback tore apart his peer group last season completing 137 of 196 pass attempts for 3,027 yards with 26 scores tossed while covering 154 yards on the ground with three trips into the end zone. The Class of 2024 talent has impressed beyond those in the stands earning a No. 8 in-class national ranking by QB Hit List and has college coaches spanning the ACC and SEC following his progress.
In an RNG Q&A interview partnered with QB Hit List, Fountain takes a break from his workouts to fill us in on how he is preparing for varsity football this season.

Reece, you put up some big numbers last season throwing for over 3,000 yards. What was working for you allowing for the prolific season?
I had a great offensive line, great receivers, and my coaches let me throw it when I needed to.

Reading defenses and my arm strength.

Rome High School.

By lifting weights and working out with my senior quarterback Caleb Ellard.

A quicker and higher release, my footwork, and keeping my eyes downfield.
At the varsity level in Georgia, defenses are more complicated and trickier to pick apart. How have you expanded your football IQ to have a better understanding of not only your offense but also the defenses you may see?
I have been watching film with our senior quarterback, offensive coordinator, and I’ve been learning the coverages of defensive backs and linebackers.
At each level there is an adaptation that happens with an increase in strength, athleticism, and understanding of the game. How have you worked to adapt to the skill around you this offseason?
By studying more film, working out, working on my foot placement, and preparing physically and mentally.
What goals have you set for the upcoming season?
For us to win every game, play for a state championship, and, for me, to contribute as much as I can and letter.
Word along the recruiting trail is spreading on you. Which schools are already showing recruiting interest?
Coaches that follow me on Twitter are from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee, Bama, Florida, and Memphis.

Yes, I want to visit South Carolina and Ole Miss.
