For an underclassman being in that championship atmosphere can do amazing things to help push the developmental progress forward on the field. At national powerhouse Mater Dei, Jack Ressler was able to do the unthinkable, and that was log game time in with the varsity squad. Ressler snagged two passes for 17 yards, but also got meaningful reps on the field showing that he can block. The upside Ressler has shown coupled with a bigger role in the Monarchs’ offense this fall has prompted scholarship offers to be extended from Arizona, Arizona State, Hawaii, Pitt, and San Jose State.

Making another visit to the RNG Lab, Ressler fills us in on his offseason workouts and expanding recruiting process.

Interview

Jack, as a freshman you got that unbelievable opportunity to play for Mater Dei’s varsity squad during the 2020 season. What was that like for you getting on the field so soon, and doing so with one of the nation’s best programs?

The feeling was second to none. It was surreal being out there. I have been dreaming of playing for Mater Dei since I was a kid. It was a feeling like no other.

What were some of the key things you learned as a receiver during your freshman season?

Doing the little things, like blocking. Being a receiver, you have to do everything. It was a big deal seeing a freshman block; that was a big deal for college programs.

Which routes are you running within the scheme?

I am running everything, especially this year. I will be inside and outside this year moving around the field.

When you went into the offseason, what did you start working on with your technique?

I have been working on releases and running routes based on coverages. I am trying to mix it up and prepare for every moment possible.

To push your speed and agility to that next level, what have you been doing with your training?

Bounding, form running, and getting the form down.

Did you compete at any national camps this offseason?

Yes, I competed at an Under Armour camp.

Very cool. How did the camp go for you?

It went well. I did the one on ones; that went well. I enjoyed my time out there.

Are you going to any college camps before the opportunity closes at the end of the month?

I might be going to Oregon on Saturday.

Will this be your first college camp?

Yes.

I can only image, but have to ask; are you excited about the possibility to compete at an Oregon camp?

Yes, very excited.

With recruiting, which programs are showing interest?

Oregon is showing a lot. Going up there, I will get to talk to the coaches. Notre Dame is another. I have been keeping in touch with them. I would like to visit them when I can.

Your offer sheet is blowing up. How many do you have now?

Five.

Which schools were the latest to offer?

San Jose State and Pitt.

Did you get to visit any schools this summer?

Yes. I visited USC. That was a great experience.

During your trip to USC, what did you see and do?

I got to try on the gear, that was fun, and I got to see the football part and the school. USC has a great atmosphere. It is great in LA. There is a lot going on in LA. It is not boring over there.

Are there any programs you may visit extending on into the season?

I would like to see Clemson, Oregon, Notre Dame, and LSU is definitely on my list. Those are the schools that have my eyes right now.

Last question. Looking to the 2021, what goals have you set?

I’d like to get 700 plus receiving yards. I am not big on personal goals. My main goal is to win CIF. That is the biggest goal.

Jack, great getting time in again with you today. Wishing you success at Oregon and with the upcoming season.

Yes, sir. Thank you.
