Interview
Zach, how are your offseason workouts coming along?
“They are going well. At school, we are doing our morning workouts and I am training on Sundays too.”
What are you focused in on with your technical training at your position?
“I am focusing on my pass rushing. I am working on my moves like the swim, juking, and push-pull.”
Where are you seeing the biggest improvements in your game?
“My speed moves. I do not want to just bull-rush all the time.”
Have you maxed out in the weight room this offseason?
“I have, but I did not do bench. My power clean was 235 and my squat was 380. I also ran a 4.6 40-yard dash.”
Nice. Going into recruiting. You’re recruiting interest has shot through the roof, which schools are looking in on you?
“Texas, Tennessee, Nebraska, and Alabama.”
How many offers do you have now?
“I have 12 offers.”
Offers – Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette, Arkansas State, Tulane, Louisiana-Monroe, Massachusetts, Texas State, Vanderbilt, Memphis, and SMU
Which schools have been the latest to offer?
“Florida, Vanderbilt, Arkansas State, and Louisiana-Lafayette.”
Which schools have you visited so far?
“Arkansas, Florida, Kansas State, Vanderbilt, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, and Memphis… I can’t remember them all. I know I am forgetting some.”
How did your last visit to Arkansas go (Feb. 24)?
“It went well. They showed me love there. That was my fourth time going up there. I knew they were going to treat me well. That is when they gave me an offer.”
That is a good visit. How did the Florida visit go?
“That went well too. Their facilities were humongous, but everything on campus was compact – easy to get to. I liked it.”
What about Mississippi State, how did that go?
“It was good. There were more kids there than with some of the other visits. The coaches could not show as much attention. The campus was nice and the food was good.”
Do you have any planned visits upcoming?
“I am going to Alabama on the 29th. I might go to a couple of other schools – Louisiana-Lafayette and Texas wants me to go there too.”
What has you excited about the Alabama visit?
“They always win. I am excited to see and meet the coaches and see the facilities in person. I cannot wait for that.”
When you take these trips, what are you looking at with the school and/or program to do your own evaluations?
“I’m looking at the coaches, how they treat the players, the academics, and the facilities.”
Have you attended any camps or combines this spring?
“I have not attended any camps yet this spring. On April 29, I am going to the Nike Regional in Dallas.”
Do you have any planed camps upcoming?
“None yet.”
Have you set any college camps for this summer yet?
“I don’t know yet. I have to talk to my dad about that one.”
Zach, thanks for your time today and good luck at the Nike Regional.
“Thank you.”
