All things are rolling in favor of Class of 2019 North Little Rock High School running back Oscar Adaway. The 6-1, 205-pound, back is coming off a big junior season where he rushed for 753 yards off 79 totes with seven touchdowns and caught 14 passes for 126 yards with another score in rotating backfield. Adaway got to hoist the 7A Arkansas state championship trophy at the end of the 2017 season helping the Charging Wildcats to a 13-0 season with a No. 7 national end of year ranking. That work helped draw 10 scholarship offers but the recruiting process for Adaway ended on Sunday, Aug. 19, with an announced verbal commitment to North Texas.
In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I sat down with the three-star tailback for insight on his commitment to the Mean Green with a Week 1 preview for North Little Rock’s showdown against Oklahoma’s Washington High School.

Interview
Oscar, congratulations on your commitment to North Texas.
“Thank you.”
How did North Texas become the right school and football program for you?
“The coaching staff is amazing. The facilities are 9 out of 10; it was a great choice for me. I went to CSU (Colorado State) to check it out to make sure I was making the right decision. What they are doing at North Texas is at a high level and they are on the rise.”
How do they plan to use you within their offense?
“They plan to use me at receiver – at slot, and at running back.”
When did you verbally commit to the Mean Green?
“I committed on Sunday.”
Which coach got that call?
“Coach Tashard Choice, their running backs coach.”
What was Coach Choice’s reaction to your commitment?
“He was incredibly surprised.”
What were you thinking and/or feeling right before you made the call?
“I was ready to get the weight off my shoulder. With the season coming, I was ready to get it over with. I made the phone call.”
How does it feel to have a dream of yours become a reality?
“It is amazing. To get my college paid for is what I wanted to get, to play football in college makes it even better.”
Did you do anything to celebrate your commitment?
“No. I stayed at home with my girlfriend and we ate pizza.”
That sounds like a nice celebration. Turning to football. We spoke last week about your offseason workouts, now we are in game week. How are you feeling staring down No. 4 (in Oklahoma) ranked Washington High School (Tulsa) on Saturday?
“We are feeling good. We are ready to put Arkansas on the map. North Little Rock High School is ready.”
What kind of defensive front will you see from the Hornets?
“They have a five-man front, they go man to man in the secondary.”
What kind of game are you expecting to have against Washington?
“A really good game. We want to run it down their throat.”
Oscar, congratulations, again, on your commitment. Good luck against Washington on Saturday.
“Thank you.”
