Kail Dava Notes

Concluding a successful season in Canada, defensive tackle Kail Dava is beginning to reap the benefits by receiving a college scholarship offers. He credits some of it to the 12-game season the CFC10 Clarkson Football North team played throughout the U.S. Midwest. Getting to play top teams in Ohio and Virginia only helped his recruitment and ability to showcase his talents. He has been offered scholarships to Kent, Delaware State and Tennessee Tech thus far with anticipation of more schools offering in the coming months.

Dava has been on the varsity team for the past three years and offers more than just his skills on the playing field. He is an avid student with a 3.8 GPA. Any school will be lucky to have him.

In an RNG exclusive interview, I catch up with Kail about this past football season.

Interview

What are some things you are doing to better yourself in the game?

“The last two years I have been in preparation mode and what made me excited this past season is that all my hard work really showed. It was a game changing season to get my name out. I have been and continue to always be open to learning – taking little pieces of information and try to apply it to my game anywhere I can.

What about with your technique, how did you see that part of your game improve?

“I was using my hands more with purpose. I really pushed myself in the offseason working with my D-line coach. We worked a lot on coming up with stance, recognizing different O-lines and just making it second nature to me. I have added a lot of moves that I can do without thinking like a chop and spin or radical moves like side to sides.”

Take me through your week now that the season has concluded.

“Every day we have a school workout. I have put myself on a meal map to bulk up while also becoming lighter. Most days are two-a-days and cardio. In between, a couple times a week I do D-lne work to practice my craft.”

What has been your biggest improvement from last year to this year?

“I think my speed off the ball has greatly increased from last year to this year. My comfortableness in stance to come off the ball low and fast has proven to be good.”

What is the team aspect going into a game?

“Honestly, just being mentally prepared. We spend a lot of time in film. Throughout the game, when schemes are good ones – I was able to read schemes. Throughout the season it became a lot easier to read the offense.”

With recruiting – which schools are showing interest in you but have not offered yet?

As of right now, Rutgers and Illinois. I went to the Rutgers game and had a really good camp with them. I believe that once I release my end of season tape, more school will contact me.”

What other school are you planning to visit?

“I visited Delaware over the weekend a few weeks ago and will be visiting Tennessee Tech the second weekend of December.”

In the classroom, what are some of your favorite classes?

“I enjoy English based courses. I like writing as well as courses like law. I think I am really good at articulating myself, so that’s probably why.”

What is something that you would like to say to any potential school looking to recruit you?

“Whatever programs receives me will get more than a football person. I love community, and I am a great student and a great leader. I would be an asset to any program that would have me!”

Kail, thanks for your time today and good luck with your continued offseason workouts.

“Thank you.”
