A tremendous legacy, that is far from finished, is being created at Bryant High School by Class of 2020 talent Catrell Wallace. During the 2018 high school football season, Wallace was a key defender for the Hornets coming up with 79 tackles as an outside linebacker/end earning second team All-State, All-Conference, and All-USA Toady Arkansas Team honors. The play on the field brought the Hornets an 11-2 record and a state championship trophy for the display case. The 6-6, 210-pound, athlete then took his athleticism to the hardwood helping his school to a 24-5 record with another run to a 7A title game, this time falling just short (44-41) to Fort Smith Northside. College football staffs are responding to Wallace’s talents with seven offers dropped thus far with more looks coming.

With another big visit to Arkansas over the weekend, I sat down with Wallace to catch up on his offseason workouts, recruiting, and unofficial visit with the Hogs in an exclusive one-on-one.

Interview

Catrell, we always talk football but we touched a little on basketball during our last interview. Since we last spoke, how did your basketball season with Bryant end up?

We made it to the championship. In the championship game, it went down to the last few seconds but we lost by three.”

Tremendous season. Congratulations.

“Thank you.”

How are the offseason workouts coming along on defense?

“Good. I have been doing the usual workouts. Monday is a conditioning day and then Tuesday through Thursday are strength and conditioning days. On Fridays, I am focused on strength with my workouts.”

Last time we spoke you mentioned possibly playing some tight end and receiver, how are those workouts coming along?

“They are going well. I am doing receiver drills with the running backs, receivers, and tight ends. My coach said I should be a red zone threat and long first down threat with my size and jumping abilities.”

Where are you seeing gains in your skillset as a defender this offseason?

“I am seeing improvements with my speed and agility. I have been doing a lot of running, I am getting faster. Our workouts are mainly to do with speed and flexibility. It is helping.”

Turn to recruiting. Which schools are showing new interest?

“Oklahoma State and Ole Miss – they are recent interest talking to me a lot. Those are the main two right now.”

How many offers do you have now?

“I have seven offers.”

Which were the last couple to offer you?

“Nebraska and Houston.”

Wallace’s Offer Sheet (7): Arkansas, Arkansas State, Houston, Louisiana-Monroe, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, and Virginia

Have you taken any unofficial visits since January?

“I visited Arkansas this weekend.”

How did the Arkansas visit go?

“It was good. Every time I go up there, they treat me like they want me there. It is an awesome experience.”

What all did you do on this visit?

“They weighed me and took my height. We took pictures, watched the game, and I talked to Coach (Chad) Morris (head coach).”

What did you talk to Coach Morris about when you had the chance?

“Nothing much really. We talked more about family.”

What did you think of the spring game?

“It was good. The defense was locking up the offense, the offense did have a good game as well. I enjoyed it a lot.”

Leaving the Arkansas campus this time, what was your lasting impression of the visit?

“The lasting impression is how they treat me. I feel welcomed every time. I get the same treatment from them each time I am there. They treat me like I am at home and they treat me like they want me to be there.”

Nice. Do you have any other upcoming visits you may take?

“Yes. I am planning on going to Ole Miss when school is over this summer. I may be going to Oklahoma State, Nebraska and Houston soon.”

Catrell, great catching up with you today. I appreciate your time.

“Thank you.”
