Recruiting rankings are not always to the level, and that holds true for three-star Class of 2020 talent Chris Street. Street was a force that could not be stopped during the 2018 season helping JSerra Catholic to a 9-3 record and a No. 17 national ranking after tearing through Trinity League competition. The 5-10, 195-pound, back ran rough for 1,342 yards with 17 touchdowns and snagged seven passes for 154 yards posting two more scores on the board. His workhorse approach after carrying the rock 202 times in 2018, along with his breakaway speed, and every-down-abilities have attracted 13 offers to date. With Street’s senior year quickly approaching, unofficial visits are about to turn into official trips with an all-too important decision coming in the near future.

In an RNG catch-up interview, I sat down with one of California’s top running backs for an update on his spring practices and his potential official visits this summer.

Interview

Chris, how did spring ball with the Lions go?

“It went well. We had a spring game; my squad was not victorious. But we had a good game. The other squad scored one more at the end. It was 3-2 as far as touchdowns, but we fought hard.”

How is the offense coming along?

“We looked pretty good. We are supposed to be getting some more guys in, I look forward to seeing how they gel into the program once they get here.”

What were you working on throughout the spring?

“I was working on getting my touch back. After track season, we went late into the season, I was working on my cutbacks and getting my feel for the game. Being out there on the field felt great again. I can’t even describe it – being back to doing something you love… I worked a lot on my speed and elusiveness this spring.”

Did you max out in the weight room this spring?

“Yes. My bench was 315, squat 500, and my power clean was 250.”

Impressive. You mentioned your track times, what events did you run and what was your best time this season?

“I competed in the 100, 200, and 4×1 relay. My best event was the 4×1 and 100. My PR in the 100 was 11.27.”

Did any college coaches come by JSerra to meet with you in-person or watch you workout during the spring evaluation period?

“Yes. Cal’s running backs coach, Coach (Nicholas) Edwards, Coach (Kiel) McDonald (RB) and Coach (Kyle) Whittingham (head coach) from Utah came by, Nevada coach Mike Chamoures (DB), and from Arizona State Coach (Shaun) Aguano stopped by practice. Some other coaches pulled me out of class to meet with me.”

What kind of feedback have you been receiving from the coaches?

“It has all been good feedback. I am receiving heavy interest from Cal, Utah, and Arizona State. Colorado State has been contacting me. They like what I do on the field and my personality off the field.”

You mentioned some of the schools showing interest, how many offers do you have now?

“I have 13 offers.”

Street’s Offer Sheet (13): Arizona State, Boston College, Cal, Colorado State, Florida, Nevada, Oregon, Oregon State, San Jose State, Utah, Utah State, Washington State, and Wyoming

Which schools have you visited over the last couple of months or so?

“I have visited Cal, Utah, and Arizona State.”

How did the Cal visit go?

“I went in February and I went again last weekend. On this last weekend visit, it went well. I was able to absorb more information on the second visit and I got more comfortable with the school.”

Tell me about the ASU visit, if you will?

“I took that visit in late March. That went well. It was relaxed. We saw a lot and did a lot of sightseeing. I went in-depth on the campus looking around. I thought it was cool that all their sports teams have their own field. We ate dinner on the field, that was fun.”

What about the Utah visit?

“That was in early April. It was fun. I saw a practice and I saw how they run their practices. It was a lot of fun. It was eye opening as to what I would be doing if I went there. And I had no problems with that.”

Do you have any planned visits this summer or into the early part of the fall?

“I might be taking an official to Cal within the next two weeks. I am working out the schedule with my brothers. If I can, I would like to go to ASU in July. If not then, I will go in September. I might take an official to Utah as well.”

Given you have so many offers and are starting to plan out official visits, have you started thinking about a commitment date yet?

“I have off and on. I want to move it up the week before summer ends, but I might do it in the middle of the season. I am not sure yet.”

Chris, always great catching up with you. Thank you for your time and good luck with your upcoming visits.

“Thank you.”
